Evtimov T&F Recap Meyo Day 2

Milwaukee 4x400 Relay Sets Indoor School Record on Day Two of Meyo Invitational

January 31, 2026

South Bend, Ind. – The Milwaukee track & field teams competed in day two of Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational inside the Loftus Center Saturday.

"Track & field is unique where any event group on any given week can step up and have a great day," said head coach Andrew Basler. "On both the men's and women's sides, I thought there were a lot of indoor personal-best performances as well as indoor season-bests. Today was highlighted by the indoor school record performance in the women's 4x400. I know they have been going after that for a while, so it is exciting for them to get that record."

Coming off a dominant performance at Iowa, the Panther 4x400 relay team took it up a notch. The squad of Victoria Evtimov, Taylor Thimmesch, Katie Burns, and Leah Handshoe broke the program record in the event, a record that has stood since 2015, with a time of 3:48.06.

"Burns has also had a great senior campaign," added Basler. "It is really great to see."

Burns also shined in the 400-meter dash championship where she placed sixth, turning in the fourth-fastest time in school history (56.04).

Victoria Spagnola recorded a new personal-best in the 60-meter hurdle semis (8.80). She locked up a spot in the finals, where she secured eighth place (8.88).

Olivia VanZeeland added a second-place outing in the high jump where she cleared 1.72 meters.

"Our men's side was highlighted by our freshman Ty Bauschelt in the 400-meter," said Basler.

In the open 400-meter dash, Bauschelt notched a new personal-best, finishing sixth (48.93).

Lucas Picco continued his momentum from day one, placing fourth in the 800-meter dash with his season-best time of 1:51.89. Karsten Grundahl also cracked the top 10, crossing the line ninth (1:53.43) in the 36-runner field.

Brendan Vlasak advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles after posting an 8.42 in the preliminary round. He followed that effort with a seventh-place finish in the finals, clocking an 8.41.

Matt Scardina made his way to the 60-meter finals where he turned in a 7.01-second outing, placing seventh.

"Overall, it was a really good step forward for the program this weekend. We are looking forward to next week where almost everyone will get an opportunity to compete, whether at Iowa State or La Crosse," concluded Basler.
