Panthers Open Two-Day Meyo Invitational, Compete at Lenny Lyles

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee track & field teams opened competition Friday at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and Louisville's PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Ky.

Victoria Spagnola got the Panthers going early with her fifth place (8.87) finish in the 60-meter hurdles qualifying round. Spagnola will compete in the semis and finals for the 60-meter hurdles Saturday.
 
Katie Burns emerged as a standout for Milwaukee, posting an indoor personal-best time of 24.87 in the 200-meter dash. Burns claimed first place in a field of 39 total runners, with her performance ranking sixth all-time in Panther program history for the event. Angelica Refinski also delivered a strong showing, recording a season-best time of 25.62 in the 200-meter dash.
 
In the long jump, Nevia Levenhagen finished sixth with her 5.62-meter effort.
 
For the men, Lucas Picco crossed the finish line seventh in the 600-meter, clocking a time of 1:20.21. Wade Duffek recorded a new personal-best in the event, completing the race in 1:22.56.
 
Zac Schmidt turned in a season-best outing in the 200-meter dash (22.49), securing twelfth place. Matt Scardina and Anthony Buford were right behind, finishing in thirteenth (22.50) and fourteenth (22.51), respectively.
 
Ty Bauschelt shined in the high jump, finishing second with his season-best 2.02-meter leap. Tyler Dahlie tied for third, clearing 1.92 meters.

Anna Szepieniec, Kallie Volk, and Kara Meeteer represented Milwaukee in the pentathlon.
 
Competing in the A Division pentathlon was Szepieniec, who placed fifth on the day with 3741 points. Her top finish came in the long jump where she earned second, clearing 6.07 meters. Her other event results featured a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.56), sixth in the 800-meter (2:34.5) and shot put (10.49 meters), and ninth in the high jump (1.54 meters)
 
Volk and Meeteer were slotted in the B Division, coming away with scores of 3576 and 2947, respectively.
 
Volk's top performances included placing second in the high jump, tying her career-high leap of 1.70-meters, and the 800-meter dash (2:29.0) where she crossed the finish line third.
 
Meeteer recorded a fifth-place outing in the high jump where she cleared 1.58 meters as well as a sixth-place effort in the long jump (5.52 meters).
