Panthers Record Three Personal Bests at Rumble in the Fort

September 20, 2025

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Panther men's cross country team ran at Purdue Fort Wayne's Rumble in the Fort on Saturday morning on the Mastodon Cross Country Course in a preview of the 2025 Horizon League Championships later this season.

The Black and Gold finished fourth out of eight teams, earning 109 points. The match up featured multiple conference foes including Green Bay, Wright State, IU Indy, and host, Purdue Fort Wayne.

"At the mid-season point, we had the opportunity to preview the site of the Horizon League Championships. We also had a chance to toe the line with multiple conference teams," said head coach Andrew Basler.

The Panthers were led by a trio of runners in Sam Schreiber, Cullen Boyle, and Will Whiteis, who all finished in the top-20 in the 8K race. Schreiber was the first Milwaukee athlete to cross the finish line, ending the event in 13th place with a time of 25:10.3. Boyle was right behind Schreiber, coming in 14th at 25:13.8. Whiteis followed in 16th place, producing a career-best 8K time of 25:18.3.

"Our lead pack of Schreiber, Boyle, and Whiteis moved through the race together strongly," Basler added.

Other notable performances for the Panthers came from Harper Fahey, who set a personal best with a time of 26:19.3, and Talon Gamez, who also notched a personal best with a mark of 26:35.3.

"Fahey stepped out of his comfort zone by moving from the 4K to the 6K, and it certainly paid off. The pieces are falling into place for this team, but there are still some small things they need to improve on in the next six weeks," Basler concluded.

Milwaukee will compete next on Oct. 3 at the Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame. The team will also compete at the Warrior Invitational at Greenfield Park on Saturday, Oct. 4.
