YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Milwaukee men's track & field team competed at the first day of the Horizon League Championship meet Friday.
Josh Cygan won the discus to bring home the first league title of the weekend for the Panthers.

Cygan used a toss of 51.03m to cap off a tremendous freshman campaign in the event with the first championship of his career.

Andrew Basler. "Major props to our freshman Josh for getting our first title of the weekend."

Through the first five events of the decathlon,
Liam Richards sits atop the leaderboard with 3,778 points. He was dominant on day one, taking first in the 100m dash (10.82), long jump (6.86m), shot put (12.87m), and 400m dash (51.76).

"Liam's put himself in a great position to go after the win and a personal best in the decathlon after day one." Added Basler.

Jack Misky was the top performer for Milwaukee in the javelin, placing fifth after the best throw of his career reached 47.65m. Richards wasn't far behind Misky, sending an attempt 46.55m to take sixth place.

In the 1500m run,
Nate Griepentrog finished 15th with a career-best time of 3:56.58.
Carter Eckhoff competed as well, reaching the finish line in 4:01.17.

Cullen Boyle represented the Panthers in the 10,000m run, coming in 13th with a time of 31:16.26.

As a team, Milwaukee currently sits in second place with 25 points, three points behind the leader Youngstown State at 28.

The Panthers will return tomorrow for day two of the action at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown, Ohio, beginning with the decathlon resuming at 8:00 a.m. (CT). Field events held tomorrow will be the shot put, long jump, and women's pole vault starting at 11:00 a.m. (CT). Running events will begin at 3:00 p.m. (CT), and will be broadcast live on
ESPN+ beginning at 2:55 p.m. (CT).
