Box Score CHICAGO – The Milwaukee women's tennis team took care of business Saturday afternoon, sweeping its way to a 7-0 victory over Chicago State at H-F Racquet & Fitness Club.
The Panthers (7-14, 1-3 Horizon League) dominated the shorthanded Cougars (0-12, 0-4 Horizon League) over the entire day, picking up the doubles point to open the match before overpowering the four singles courts that were played.
"It felt good to pick up that first conference win of the year," head coach
Mark Goldin said. "Now we will try and get everyone healthy and ready for a big weekend next week. We are hoping to continue this win streak into next weekend and extend it to the conference tournament for a big run!"
Emilia Durska and
Elisa Rubio blitzed to the first result of the afternoon, cleaning up at No. 2 doubles in a 6-0 blanking of Trinity Babcock and Karoline Riisnaes. With a default decision at No. 3, that handed MKE the quick 1-0 advantage.
In singles, the Panthers put on a show.
Sara Simonova claimed a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Riisnaes and the team kept rolling.
Rubio handled Trinity Babcock 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 while Durska took care of Danina Hughes 6-3, 6-0.
Nadiia Konieva completed the sweep with a strong 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singes to finish off the 7-0 victory.
Up next, the Panthers return home to conclude the regular-season schedule, hosting IU Indy April 18 and Northern Kentucky March 19.
