Anelise Egge Earns Outstanding Running Performer of the Meet at the Horizon League Indoor Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Milwaukee women's track & field team closed out their weekend with a third-place team finish at the Horizon League Indoor Championships, held over the weekend at Lutheran Health Fieldhouse, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne. 
 
Sunday's action was highlighted by Anelise Egge being named Women's Outstanding Running Performer of the Meet for the second year in a row.  
 
The League's Athlete of the Year, Egge started her day repeating as the league champion in the mile run with a terrific performance of 4:51.98. She followed that performance with a career-best time of 2:12.23 to finish second in the 800m run, before closing her day in the 3000m with another runner-up finish at 9:39.49. 
 
"Anelise hit a triple a lot of runners just can't do, with the 800m, the mile, and the 3000m and came away with a first and two seconds." head coach Andrew Basler said of Egge's performance. 
 
As a team, the Panthers finished with 123 points to place them third overall, with Youngstown State coming away with the league title at 152 points. 
 
"I'm really proud of the way both teams performed on the final day of the championships," Basler continued. "I thought we had a shot at a trophy if some things fell our way, but Purdue Fort Wayne had some great performances and took that second spot." 
 
Dominique Thomas earned a second victory for the Milwaukee women in the 60m dash, flying to a finish of 7.45 to take her second straight league title in the event. She added a fourth-place finish in the 200m dash after crossing the finish line in 25.09. 
 
In the high jump, Olivia VanZeeland cleared 1.75m for the second-best performance in the program's indoor history and take second place on the day. 
 
"Olivia was in an epic high jump battle coming in second in a great atmosphere." Basler added. 
 
Morgan Pilate put herself on the triple jump podium after reaching a distance of 12.44m take third on the day. 
 
Rounding out the podium finishes for the Panthers was the 4x400m relay team of Leah Handshoe, Victoria Evtimov, Taylor Thimmesch, and Katie Burns running to a third-place finish at 3:53.83. 
 
Taking fourth place in the 400m dash was Katie Burns who finished the event with a time of 57.66. 
 
Anna Szepieniec placed fifth in the final round of the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 8.74. 
 
"I'm extremely proud of this group, we're going to regroup, reevaluate, and be in position to win championships in the outdoor season." Basler concluded.

Milwaukee will move on to its outdoor season beginning March 27-29 for North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, NC.
