FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Milwaukee men's track & field team finished in second place at the 2025 Horizon League Indoor Championships, held over the weekend at Lutheran Health Fieldhouse, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Panthers were led by four individual victories to close out the meet Sunday.
Milwaukee's 127 points trailed only Youngstown State, who earned 227.5 points to win the league title for the tenth straight year.
"I'm really proud of the way both teams performed on the final day of the championships," said head coach
Andrew Basler. "I thought we did what we needed to do to be in position for a trophy, and the men took care of business in that sense."
Bryant McLaughlin finished in a four-way tie for Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet after taking first in today's high jump and fourth in the triple jump.
Anthony Buford took home Freshman Field Athlete of the Year after finishing on top of yesterday's long jump with a leap of 7.20m. Buford was on the track today, managing seventh place in the 400m dash with a time of 51.19.
The podium in the high jump featured a lot of Black & Gold with McLaughlin claiming the top spot after clearing a height of 2.01m. Caden Thomas joined him in clearing 2.01m and finished third after tiebreakers.
"A big highlight of the day was Bryant, he had a big jump to win that championship." Basler added.
Jaelyn Reeves-Lile wrapped up his tremendous indoor season by grabbing a first-place finish in the 200m dash after he crossed the finish line in 21.82. He added a runner-up finish in the 60m dash, posting a time of 6.78.
Liam Richards closed out the final three events of the heptathlon strong to rack up 5125 points on the weekend and win the event for the second consecutive season. Richard's point total ranks third on the school's all-time indoor leaderboard.
Bishop Bufford picked up another top finish for the Panthera in the triple jump, reaching a title-winning distance of 13.96m.
"Bishop came through big for us in the triple jump being able to win that event." Continued Basler.
Milwaukee finished fifth and sixth in the 800m run, with
Karsten Grundahl leading the way at 1:53.83, and
Lucas Picco following him with a time of 1:54.19.
Ethan Mitchell led the way for the team in the 60m hurdles notching a performance of 8.54.
Basler finished by saying, "I'm extremely proud of this group, we're going to regroup, reevaluate, and be in position to win championships in the outdoor season."
