February 09, 2024

ALLENDALE – The Milwaukee track & field program set four new records today at Big Meet Friday, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.

Natalie Block broke two of her own records on the day, lowering her program-best times in the 60m hurdles and the 400m dash. Taking first in the 60mH, Block crossed the line in 8.22 seconds, lowering her record for the third time this season. Block was followed in second place by Kynnedi Malone who recorded a time of 8.57 seconds, the second best time in program history.

Block later took fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 54.58 seconds, beating her old record of 55.30 by over three quarters of a second. In the same race, Leah Handshoe recorded a time of 57.08 seconds, which sits her at eighth on the all-time list.

Anelise Egge earned a win in the mile run with a time of 4:52.35, setting a new record and besting the previous mark set in 2011. Egge also impressed in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.33, taking fifth and recording the second fastest time in program history. Eileen Tocco also improved her mile time in the MKE record books, recording the eighth fastest time in program history with a mark of 5:00.74

Dominique Thomas lowered her own Milwaukee record in the 200m dash with a 24.27 second performance. Her time earned her third place in the event and broke the record she set earlier this season. Thomas also lowered her second-best 60m time by winning the event in 7.41 seconds. The junior sprinter is now just 0.06 seconds away from the program record of 7.37 set in 2014.

Kallie Volk won the open high jump by clearing a height of 1.64m, the sixth highest in the Horizon League this season. Volk was joined on the podium by Macy Woodward in third.

On the men's side, Golden Cotton ran the second fastest 200m time in program history, taking sixth in the event with a 21.66 mark. Cotton sits 0.22 seconds away from the program record of 21.44.

Dane Nelson placed eighth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.10 seconds, which puts him at a tie for the tenth best time in program history. Aidan Sodemann jumped into the 10th spot on the men's 5000m list, placing twelfth in the event with a time of 14:49.90.

Isabel Roloff moved up to seventh on the MKE 60m list with a 7.72 second performance in the preliminary heat, and Nate Griepentrog improved on his program tenth-best time in the mile, moving up to a tie for eighth with a time of 4:12.45 and earning twelfth in the event.

"It's so hard to just single out one person from today because there were so many people that did so well," head coach Andrew Basler said. "This is exactly where we need to be two weeks out of conference. There's a lot of excitement and energy, and we're in a really good spot heading into our home meet next weekend."

The Panthers now have just one more regular season meet before the conclusion of the indoor season. On February 17th, Milwaukee will host the Panther Tune-Up at the Klotsche Center. Horizon League Indoor Championships will be held February 24-25 in Youngstown, Ohio.
