February 03, 2024

LA CROSSE Natalie Block tied her own program record of 8.25 seconds in the 60m hurdles today as the Panthers competed at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invite hosted by La Crosse.

Block crossed the line in 8.25 seconds for the second time this season, winning the event and setting a new facility record, breaking the mark she set last year at the same meet. Block was joined on the 60mH podium by Kynnedi Malone in third. Malone crossed the line with a time of 8.68 seconds.

Dominique Thomas also set a new facility record, winning the 60m dash with a time of 7.47 seconds. The previous record of 7.53 was set last year. Isabel Roloff took second with a time of 7.76 seconds. In the prelims, Roloff recorded a 7.74 second mark, which earned her the eighth fastest time in Milwaukee history.

Roloff also earned a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.72m (12'2.5"). The height earned Roloff her second MKE top-ten finish of the day, as it was the seventh highest in program history.

On the men's side, Will Mortimer won the triple jump with a distance of 14.19m (46'6.75"). Golden Cotton found two podiums on the day, placing third in the 60m dash (6.82) and the 200m dash (22.21).

Milwaukee took the top five spots in the 200m dash, as Thomas (25.30), Malone (25.76), and Anna Szepieniec (26.02) led the way. Leah Handshoe and Katie Burns finished fourth and fifth.

Handshoe and Burns took the top two spots in the 400m run. Handshoe crossed the line in 58.41 seconds, followed by Burns with a 58.83 mark.

Tabitha Wechlo led the way in the shot put, winning the event with a distance of 14.28m (46'10.25"). Samantha Satterfield joined her in third, recording a throw of 13.02m (42'8.75").

Anelise Egge won the 800m run with a time of 2:14.43, and Olivia VanZeeland matched her PR in the high jump, winning with a height of 1.68m (5'6").

Kortnie Volk took the top spot in the long jump, leaping a distance of 5.58m (18'3.75"). Joining her on the podium was Aubrie Gorski in third with a jump of 5.47m (17'11.5").

Harper Fahey finished the 800m run with a time of 2:01.10, earning second place in the event. Collin Schulz cleared a height of 2.00m (6'6.75") for second place in the high jump, and Tim Maidment took third in the long jump with a distance of 6.85m (22'5.75").

Morgan Pilate earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.52m (38'4.5"). Szepieniec was close behind in third place with a distance of 11.49m (37'8.5").

"Overall, it was a mix of good results and results that warrant improvement," head coach Andrew Basler commented. "Track and field meets are a rollercoaster of highs and lows. For the most part this season we have been hitting a lot more highs. Today's meet had some of those highs, but it also felt like we were a little flat."

"We are two weeks into the new semester, and I think there are more stresses the athletes are balancing overall," Basler continued. "But, this group knows what to do to be at a better place heading into next week."

The Panthers' next meet comes February 9th in Allendale, Michigan when they travel to compete at Big Meet Friday hosted by Grand Valley State University.
