NOTRE DAME, IND.- The Milwaukee women's cross country team competed in the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame Friday afternoon.

Anelise Egge continued her outstanding season, breaking the school record in the 5k race with her time of 17:18.2. She passes the previous mark of 17:26.7 set by Elise Sigg in 2010. She took seventh place out of 182 runners for her fourth consecutive Top-10 finish to start the year.

Andrew Basler said. "She put herself right up front from the beginning and competed well."

As a team the Panthers finished 15
th out of 23 teams in the event with 388 points.

"Race to race, I think we're moving in the right direction" said associate head coach
Jake Reilly. "Technically and tactically we're doing well the times just aren't quite there yet."

In all, four of the seven runners for Milwaukee set new career-bests in the 5k.
Cailin Kinas finished in 71
st place with her time of 18:30.0.
Ally Schmitz was the next with her time of 18:36.9,
Joely Overstreet was the last to post her new best with a time of 19:12.1.

Basler finished saying, "As a unit I was expecting to see the women in better position on what is a flat, fast course. They need to figure out a way to race to the level of their workouts, which have been going great. They are all capable of a lot more and I have confidence they will keep improving over this last month."

Milwaukee will have a group running in Wisconsin Lutheran's Warrior Classic Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11:00 a.m. Then the Panthers will have their final chance for improvements before the Horizon League Championships on Friday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Peoria, Ill. for Bradley's Pink Classic at 1:30 p.m.
