Egge Breaks 5K Program Record at Joe Piane Invitational

October 04, 2025

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Panther cross country team competed at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Friday morning on the Burke Golf & Cross Country Course.

Anelise Egge led the way for Milwaukee, finishing 43rd out of 180 runners and set a school record time of 17:04.9 in the 5K event. She surpassed her own program record from last season when she clocked a time of 17:18.2 at the 2024 Joe Piane Invitational.

"The women got bumped up to the Blue Race, which presented a great race opportunity. All in all, they took great strides for forward again," head coach Andrew Basler stated.

In a loaded field, the Panthers finished 20th as a team at the event with 563 points.

The next Panther to complete the race was Izabel Romero, recording a time of 18:14.6 and finishing in 144th place.

Milwaukee saw another runner set a career-best in Rachel Helm, earning a 5K time of 18:23.5. Helm surpassed her previous record 5K performance by over 45 seconds. She finished 155th at the meet.

"We had five ladies have personal 5K bests. We are exactly where we need to be as we head into the final stretch of the season," concluded Basler.

The Panthers look ahead to the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday morning. The race will take place in West Allis, Wis., at Greenfield Park. The men will run first at 10 a.m., followed by the women at 11 a.m.
