September 25, 2026

MILWAUKEE - Mariah Wondra, in just her third career collegiate race, tallied a fifth-place finish to guide the Milwaukee women's cross country team to third place at the Jim Allen Classic.

The Bonduel, Wis. native covered the 6K course in 22:59.2, good for fifth place overall. Wondra was the lone freshman to earn a top-10 finish, tallying silver amongst the Horizon League competitors.

Janiyah Taylor was quick to follow, notching a season-best time of 23:07.1 to take eighth.

A pair of freshmen in Grace Storjohann and Leah Gonwa each put together quality performances as well. Storjohann sliced off over 40 seconds from her previous 6K race to earn 16th, while Gonwa completed her first 6K as a Panther to take 17th.

Avery Sommer was the fifth and final scorer for Milwaukee, turning in a time of 24:03.3 to earn 21st. The Panthers finished with 63 points as a unit.

"While Marquette was the host school, it very much felt like a home cross country meet for us," head coach Andrew Basler said. "We had great support from our staff and track athletes."

Milwaukee will return to competition Friday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Indiana for the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. The meet is set to start at 9:30 a.m. CT.

"We are looking forward to really opening up and racing hard at Notre Dame next weekend," Basler said.
