Trio of Top-10 Program Marks for Women's Track & Field at Clark Wood Open

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In its final event before the Horizon League Conference Championships next weekend, the Milwaukee women's track & field team closed out day two of the Clark Wood Open hosted by the University of Louisville on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Panthers had several personal-best times, that included a few entries or re-entries into the top-10 marks in program history.
 
Adaline Powell highlighted field events on the day for Milwaukee as she moved into fourth place on the all-time triple jump list at 12.46 meters. On the track, the Panthers had a pair of top-10 all-time marks as Cloey Fare had a strong performance in the 100m hurdles with a 14.18 in the finals to take over fifth place, while Leah Handshoe entered the records in 10th place all-time during the 400m dash, as she picked up a 56.61.
 
"The team took some really good steps forward heading into our conference championship weekend," noted head coach Andrew Basler on both events for the Panthers this weekend. "If you look across all of the events, there were a lot of personal bests or near personal bests and we are definitely setting ourselves up to have a pretty successful weekend next week."
 
Powell finished second on the day in the triple jump with her personal-best jump, whiel Morgan Pilate was sixth in the final standings at 11.96 meters.
 
Fare qualified for the finals with a 14.26 in the prelims, before taking off almost a full tenth of a second for her new career-best mark of 14.18. Brooke Crosby had a 14.48 in the prelims, while Pilate also had a 15.06 in the opening round of the 100m hurdles.
 
Handshoe continues her success of late with her 56.61 in the 400m dash, while Katie Burns also posted a strong time of 58.37 to finish 10th in the event.
 
In the 100m dash, Dominique Thomas qualified with a preliminary time of 11.78 to qualify for the finals, where she ultimately took fourth with an 11.81 mark.
 
Brittany Helm was Milwaukee's lone entry in the 1500m run and crossed the line at 4:48.47.
 
In the seeded pole vault, Kate Watson was sixth as she cleared 3.92 meters. Meanwhile in the unseeded pole vault Ella Laughbaum and Isabel Roloff were tied for first place as the duo cleared 3.42 meters.
 
The high jump also featured a seeded and unseeded group with Annie Guerrero highlighting the seeded group as she finished sixth by clearing 1.70 meters. The Panthers also picked up the win in the unseeded high jump as Olivia VanZeeland led the field by clearing a height of 1.65 meters, while Macy Woodward was sixth at 1.55m.
 
Milwaukee will next compete at the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day event will take place at Youngstown State beginning on Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 7.
