Strong Efforts Plentiful for Women's Track & Field at Gibson, Green & White Invites

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's track & field team wrapped up its three-day visit to the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State as well as the Green & White Invited hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran.
 
The Panthers took third at Indiana State with a team point total of 89 points, while Milwaukee finished sixth at Wisconsin Lutheran as the Panthers totaled 47 points.
 
"I think overall we took some good strides forward as a program," said head coach Andrew Basler. "We had some good weather and good competition."
 
Gibson Invitational Summary
Milwaukee won a pair of vertical jump events as Annie Guerrero took first in the high jump at 1.74 meters, while Kate Watson led Milwaukee in the pole vault at 3.90m.
 
"The vertical jumps were really good today," noted Basler. "Annie [Guerrero] in the high jump has some really good momentum as she was taking looks at some school record height towards the end of her day."
 
Also taking podium positions were Cailin Kinas in the 1500m run as she took second and had a PR in the 1500m with a time of 4:40.64.
 
"Cailin ran a really good 1500," added Basler. "I know last week was a decent race for her, but she stepped up today and took second.
 
Adaline Powell finished second in the triple jump as she broke into eighth position on the all-time triple jump list with a leap of 12.22m.
 
Olivia VanZeeland at 1.68m set a new PR in the high jump and moved into a tie for seventh on the outdoor bests list, while Ella Laughbaum had a PR in the pole vault at 3.60m and tied for ninth on the program-best list. Nadia Vo led Milwaukee in the long jump at 5.43 meters.
 
Tabitha Wechlo led the shot put for Milwaukee with a third-place finish at 14.36m and set a career-best throw in discus at 40.45m. Lauren Lietzke led the Panthers in the discus at 42.56m.
 
On the track, Anelise Egge led Milwaukee in the 800m run with a third-place finish with a time of 2:17.07, while Brooke Crosby qualified for the 100m Hurdles finals and finished with a 14.24.
 
Katie Burns had a 59.19 in the 400m dash to lead the Panthers in the field with Leah Handshoe notching the top Panther time in the 400m hurdles with a 1:03.44. Isabel Roloff had the top Panther time in the 200m dash with a 26.17.

Green & White Invite Summary
Milwaukee won two events at the Green & White Invite on a warm and humid day in Wauwatosa, as Enné Burton took first in the 100m hurdles, while Macy Woodward took the top spot in the high jump.
 
Woodward won the high jump with a career-best jump of 1.61 meters, while Burton finished the hurdles with a time of 14.83. Burton was also fourth in the 400m hurdles as she clocked in with a 1:07.75. Katie Sciarini was entered in both hurdle events and set a new PR in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:10.57.
 
Rachel Helm was entered in the 800m run and took silver with a time of 2:23.58 for a new personal-best time during the outdoor season in her second career outdoor event. Sara Jochims also had a PR in the 1500m run as she crossed the line with a time of 5:11.31.
 
Up Next
Milwaukee will have a similar setup to the past two weeks, as the team will take part in a pair of events. The Gary Wieneke Memorial at the University of Illinois will start on Friday, April 21 and wrap-up on April 22; while the one-day Marquette Invitational will take place on Saturday, April 22 with the event taking place at Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa, Wis.
