Madi Malone Named Horizon League Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, Madi Malone was selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week for the sixth week of the 2023 volleyball season.
 
Malone helped the Panthers to a 2-0 week, which included a pair of four-set wins over Robert Morris on Friday, before the team recorded its fourth win of the season in conference on Saturday against Youngstown State.
 
Malone led the Panthers with 31 kills on the week for an average of just under four per set. The junior also had a team-best .362 hitting percentage over Milwaukee's eight sets on the week on a team-high 69 attacking attempts.
 
Defensively, she was second on the team for the week with 20 digs averaging 2.50 per set. Malone also added one assist and one service ace to the Panther offense and contributed with one assisted block.
 
On the year Malone has exactly 200 kills in the team's 18 matches and 70 sets, while hitting .216 on the year on 584 attacking attempts. Malone is second on the team with her kill total and is also second on the squad with 161 digs in 2023. She has also chipped in on the year with 29 blocks, 16 assists, and four service aces in her third full season with the Panthers.
 
For her career, Malone has 877 career kills and recently crossed over 2,500 attacking attempts and is hitting .214 for her career. Malone has 742 career digs to her credit with 87 career blocks, 39 service aces, and 49 career assists.
 
This is Malone's third career selection as Horizon League Player of the Week and first since her freshman season. In 2021, Malone was recognized by the conference on both September 8, and October 6, before being recognized on the All-Horizon League First Team and was named Horizon League Freshman of the Year as a rookie.
 
This is the fourth time a Panther has been recognized by the Horizon League, as Malone joins teammate Ari Miller, who was named Player of the Week on September 5, September 18, and September 25.
 
Milwaukee returns home to the Klotsche Center on Tuesday evening, when the Panthers welcome the Green Bay Phoenix for a 6:00 p.m. first serve. The week will continue with Northern Kentucky and Wright State heading to Milwaukee on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
