Miller Nabs Third Horizon League Player of the Week Honor of 2023

September 25, 2023

INDIANAPOLIS – For the third time in the month of September, Milwaukee middle blocker Ari Miller has been named as Horizon League Player of the Week.

Miller led Milwaukee to an unblemished week as the Panthers went 3-0, with a win in the team's non-conference finale at Chicago State on Tuesday before sweeping both IUPUI on Friday and Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday to open Horizon League play.

This week Miller averaged 3.27 kills per set with a team-best 36 kills over Milwaukee's 11 sets, while hitting .500 percent with just two hitting errors on the week. Offensively she also added three service aces and one assist to her effort.

On the defensive side of the ball, Miller contributed with 21 blocks including 18 assisted blocks and three solo blocks. She had a season-high eight blocks in the team's matchups against Chicago State and IUPUI. Miller also had eight digs on the week.

On the year with 198 kills against 36 errors on 403 attacks, Miller leads the Horizon League with a .402 hitting percentage, which is 62 percentage points greater than the next closest student-athlete in the league. Her 198 kills are also second among all qualifiers in conference play.

She also leads the league with 63 assisted blocks, and total blocks with 73 while averaging 1.18 blocks per set in the team's 62 sets this season. Miller is just two points off the league lead with 253.5, but more than 40 points clear of third place in the conference.

Miller moved into third place on the all-time kills list at Milwaukee as she now has 1,378 for her career. She has also moved into sixth place on the all-time blocks list this week with 389. With her three sets played on Saturday against Purdue Fort Wayne, Miller also moved into the top-10 of sets played in a Panther uniform, tying current Associate Head Coach, and Bud K. Haidet Hall of Famer, Lindsey Vanden Berg with 434 in their respective careers. Miller also moved into a tie for 10th all-time in matches played having played in 118.

Miller was named Player of the Week by the Horizon League on both September 5, and on September 18. This is Miller's ninth selection of her career and is the second-most selections Miller has had in a season, following her four selections during the 2021 campaign.

Milwaukee heads on the road this weekend for its first test away from home in Horizon League competition. The Panthers visit Robert Morris on Friday at 5:00 p.m. (CT), before traveling to Youngstown State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (CT).
