FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sam Conger closed his season at the NCAA West Regionals on Wednesday evening, placing 32nd in the 110-meter hurdles at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field.
Conger crossed the line in 14.12 seconds in his first regional, just seven hundredths of a second behind his career-best time. In the field of 48 runners, Conger was seeded 46th but moved up 13 spots with his 32nd-place finish.
"Sam ran a great race considering he hasn't competed in five weeks due to an injury," head coach
Andrew Basler. "He came in ranked 46th and finished 32nd. Coach
Corey Wilch did a great job getting Sam prepared for this NCAA opportunity."
Conger closes his Panther career with several impressive performances, highlighted by a pair of Horizon League Indoor Championship gold medals in the 60-meter hurdles the last two years. In the record books, Conger ranks top three in program history in the 55-meter hurdles, 60-meter hurdles, and 110-meter hurdles.
"Sam has had a great career as a Panther, both on and off the track," Basler said. "His leadership, passion, and work ethic will definitely be missed."
Kate Watson will compete tomorrow at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the pole vault. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26.
