VALPARAISO, Ind. – In the final meet before the Horizon League Championships, the Milwaukee men's track and field team competed at the Valparaiso Open on Saturday, totaling eight individual victories and nine second place finishes.
Gracien Jules won a pair of throwing events, taking home the top spot both the discus (50.47m) and shot put (15.82m). Jules was also the Panthers top finisher in the hammer throw, placing second at 54.63m.
Caleb Rogalski finished second in the shot put (15.36m) and third in both the discus (42.81m) and hammer (53.75) while
Finnegan Shields was third in the shot put (14.45m) and fourth in the discus (42.47m).
Brett Clevidence posted a season-best throw of 48.84m to win the javelin.
Matthew Bye placed third in the event at 46.22m.
In the jump events,
Chris Dobbie recorded a first-place finish in the high jump with a season-best 1.85m.
Will Mortimer won the long jump at 6.92m while
Jack Misky placed third at 5.60m.
The duo of
Michael Gorman and
Golden Cotton tallied strong results in the 100m. Gorman won the event, crossing the line at 10.68 seconds while Cotton posted a season-best time of 10.70 to finish runner-up.
"I thought
Michael Gorman and
Golden Cotton had a really good wind legal 100m race," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "They will have some confidence heading into the championship next week."
Milwaukee had the top three finishers in the 5000m, led by Daniel Browne at 15:32.70.
Spencer Currie (15:56.74) and
Josh Freitag (16:30.07) were second and third, respectively.
In the 110m hurdles, Bye finished first with a time of 14.94 seconds.
Dane Nelson was second at 14.99 while
Tony Bretall placed fourth at 16.12.
Luke Rapisarda (400m),
Hunter Krepline (800m), and
Aidan Sodemann (1500m) all earned runner-up finishes in their respective events. Rapisarda posted a time of 50.77, Krepline finished with a season-best 1:55.55, and Sodemann crossed the line at 3:57.62.
Nate Griepentrog finished third in the 800m at 1:58.34.
Dylan Sieloff (4.45m) and
Evan Bartelsen (4.30m) were back-to-back finishers in the pole vault, placing second and third.
The Panthers head to Rochester, Michigan for the Horizon League Championship next weekend. The three-day meet is scheduled to begin Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, May 8.
