NORMAL, Ill. – To open the Redbird Invite, the Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams competed in the hammer throw. Day two of the meet will continue at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning at Illinois State in Normal, Ill.
Gracien Jules posted a new personal record in the event, placing fifth with a throw of 54.14m. The mark puts him eight in program history in the hammer throw.
Caleb Rogalski finished eighth to score for the Panthers, recording a throw of 50.96m.
Finnegan Shields was the final competitor on the men's side for Milwaukee and placed 15th at 41.84m.
On the women's side,
Samantha Satterfield set a new personal record with a toss of 47.92m. She finished sixth in the hammer throw and now ranks seventh in Milwaukee history with the mark.
"Jules started things off for the group at Illinois State with a Dominica national record in the hammer," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "
Samantha Satterfield had a great start to her campaign as well in the hammer throw."
Lauren Lietzke finished 14th at 41.11m and
Tabitha Wechlo was 18th at 38.32m to round out the competitors for Milwaukee.
The rest of the team will compete on day two of the Redbird Invite, with events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
"Conditions aren't going to be ideal," Basler said. "But we're not going to let that effect how we respond and react."
