MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's swim team closed the dual season against UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, earning its third consecutive win 172-88 on Senior Day inside the Klotsche Natatorium.
The Panthers recorded 10 individual victories in the dual, along with seven runner-up finishes.
"We want to congratulate our seniors," head coach
Kyle Clements said. "They have put in years of hard work and dedication and have done nothing but represent our team and university in the best way possible. As a program we ended our dual season on a high note today. The women finished their dual meet season undefeated for the first time since 2016-2017, and the men finished with a winning record for the first time since 2012-2013."
One day after collecting a pair of individual victories,
Jay Jensen added three more to bring his season total to ten. Jensen opened the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle at 1:43.10 and followed it up with wins in both the 100 free (47.17) and 200 IM (1:55.19).
Brady Basile touched the wall just moments after Jensen in the 200 IM, finishing second at 1:55.54.
Mason Schoof finished runner-up to Jensen in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.50.
Hayden Christiansen (52.67) and
Ben Huynh (52.99) were the top two finishers in the 100 backstroke, posting strong times. In the 50 free,
Ben Lorenz and
John Ruan were barely separated, with Lorenz winning with a time of 21.54. Ruan was close behind at 21.62.
Jonathan Kollen placed first in the 1000 free, touching the wall at 10:07.43.
Jackson Ahrens finished runner-up with a time of 10:17.73 in the same event.
Four other Panthers earned individual victories, including
Robert Petersen (1:56.72) in the 200 butterfly,
Travis Hull (2:11.33) in the 200 breaststroke,
Vince Chiappetta (4:46.94) in the 500 free, and
Zach McClellan (51.69) in the 100 fly.
Milwaukee recorded a pair of relay wins as well, including a new season best time in the 200 medley. The quartet of
Ben Huynh,
Sam Hauke,
Jacob Weber, and Lorenz raced to a time of 1:34.53 to finish first. In the 200 free relay, Ruan, Ahrens, Kollen, and Lorenz placed first at 1:25.57.
Milwaukee will conclude its season at the Horizon League Championships, which begins Wednesday, February 16 in Indianapolis.
"We are now solely focused on Horizon League Championships," Clements said. "We're looking forward to finishing this year off on a fast note."
