BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams sent the field athletes along with a couple multi athletes to the Hoosier Hills Invitational hosted by Indiana on Friday afternoon. Along with a school record, the team finished with several strong performances.
For the third time this season,
Natalie Block broke the school record in the 60m hurdles, finishing first with a time of 8.40 seconds. She finished just three-hundredths of a second shy of breaking a second record on the day in the 200m, posting a time of 24.73 seconds and placing first.
"I think a highlight was obviously
Natalie Block in the 60m hurdles," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "Still a little bit of a slog in her race which is exciting because she can drop that time even more heading into conference. She came back in the 200m and just missed breaking the school record. Really good day for her."
In the women's weight throw,
Cynthia Hernandez posted a mark of 17.06m which ties her for second on the Milwaukee all-time list.
Lauren Lietzke was one spot behind Hernandez, finishing eighth with a throw of 16.28m. Lietzke was also eighth in the shot put at 13.62 while
Tabitha Wechlo placed ninth at 13.53m, which is eighth all-time.
Caleb Rogalski was sixth in the men's weight throw at 18.16m and
Gracien Jules finished fourth in the men's shot put at 17.12m.
"
Tabitha Wechlo in the shot put had a good performance," Basler said. "Lifetime best and puts her in the top-10.
Caleb Rogalski was really solid in the men's weight throw, throwing over 18m so he is really close to that breakthrough performance. I thought
Cynthia Hernandez did really well in the women's weight throw with a lifetime best and puts her top-3 all-time."
Maddy Troy posted a pair of second-place finishes for the Panthers. In the long jump, Troy jumped to 5.66m before later running 7.72 seconds in the 60m.
Kate Watson continues to get closer to breaking the school record in the pole vault, as she finished third at 3.77m.
Milwaukee will compete at the St. Valentine's Invitational hosted by Wisconsin next Friday as the final meet before the Indoor Horizon League Championships.
"Next week we head to Madison," Basler said. "Going to stay a bit more local but we are going to see some good competition. It is our last shot at getting marks as we head into conference and one last push with the championships in two weeks."
