INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened up action in day one of the House of Champions Invitational at the IUPUI Natatorium Thursday.
The large event has programs competing from the host Jaguars as well as Butler, Green Bay, UIndy, Lewis, UIC, and the Panthers.
Day-one action featured two relays and the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 freestyle for individual events. Following morning preliminaries, Milwaukee combined to send 14 swimmers on to finals action in the evening, recording season-best times in every event nearly across the board on both sides.

Leading the way in the finals as the top finisher was
Erika Thomas, who took third place in the 200 IM in a time of 2:05.27.
It was a busy event for the Panthers, with four of her teammates swimming in consolation finals.
Makaila Scheiblein placed 10
th (2:08.32),
Giulia Guerra-Montes was 11
th (2:09.32),
Bri Zablocki took 12
th (2:09.74), and
Katherine Hackett placed 16
th (2:11.98). All times in the finals were season-bests for the group.
Jay Jensen was the top men's finisher, placing fifth in a time of 4:33.56 in the 500 free, knocking nearly 10 seconds off his prior season-best time. It was a good event for the men, seeing three others compete in consolations finals:
Jack Garcia was 10
th (4:36.42),
Vince Chiappetta 13
th (4:39.20), and
Jackson Hodek 15
th (4:43.02), with the entire group again knocking significant time off prior season-low times.
Meghan Jagdfeld also swam in A-Finals in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 23.87 to place eighth.
Kelen McDaniels was in B-Finals, placing 15
th in a showing of 24.23.
Antoni Haupt claimed the championship in the consolation finals of the 500 freestyle, with her time of 5:01.59 almost 12 seconds lower than her prior season-best time of 5:13.29 to place ninth.
Allie Buytendorp also placed in B-Finals, taking 15
th in a showing of 5:09.18.
On the men's side of the 50 free,
Ben Lorenz was 12
th in 20.86.
In the relays, the women's 200 free squad placed fourth (1:35.07) and the Panthers closed the night with a third-place effort in the 400 medley (3:49.42). The men were sixth in the same event in a time of 3:25.44.
Day two will have the same format, with morning preliminaries set for a 9 a.m. CST start and evening finals beginning at 5 p.m. CST.
