PEORIA, Ill. – The Milwaukee women's cross country team racked up personal bests at the Bradley Pink Classic, finishing fourth and 14th in Peoria.
"We've historically run really well at Bradley and this year was no different," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "In the first race, all five either matched or set a new personal record. I want to highlight
Anelise Egge, a freshman. We knew of her potential, but it was great to see her really go after it. It was a huge race for her.
Egge stood out for the Panthers in the 6,000-meter white race, leading MKE with a top-10 finish. The freshman finished ninth in 22:24.1 to help the Panthers place fourth of 22 teams, edging out Oakland for the best Horizon League finish.
Madison Franseen crossed in 23:10.3 with
Eileen Tocco close behind at 23:20.9 to finish 33rd.
Faith Nead (23:39.4, 43rd) and
Sara Jochims (23:47.1, 50th) also placed in the top third of the packed 190-runner field.
"More lifetime bests in the red race, where we were to top Horizon League team," Basler continued. "It goes to show the amount of depth we have on the women's side. Overall, great results heading into the championships."
In the 6,000-meter red race,
Meg Swietlik led the charge, finishing 42nd in the 306-runner field. Swietlik was the top Horizon League finisher, coming in at 21:22 to help MKE secure 14th place of 38 teams.
Also cracking the top 100 runners was
Emily Burns in 72nd (21:49.5) and
Cailin Kinas in 84
th (21:56.8).

"Overall, it was a really good weekend. Bradley is a good meet and we've done well here," associate head coach
Jake Reilly commented. "It's an exciting time of year for a coach where we start to see times drop and very competitive racing. The team did a fantastic job with a great gameplan. I'm really proud of their growth and mental maturity – we really have the depth to compete. I'm excited to see what the next two weeks bring."
Milwaukee will next head to the Horizon League Championships on October 29, hosted by Oakland in Rochester, Michigan.
