TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – With
Austin Wallace setting a new school record in the heptathlon, the Milwaukee men's track and field teams finished third out of six teams with 89.50 points at the John Gartland Invitational on Saturday.
Indiana State finished first at the meet with 207 points, while Southeastern Missouri placed second at 131 points ahead of Milwaukee.
Wallace finished with 5557 points in the heptathlon, smashing his own previous record set in 2020. He tallied a time of 2:49.07 in the 1000-meter run and recorded marks of 4.05 meters in the pole vault and 8.21 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
"Overall, I think another solid weekend," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "Maybe not as good as last week but we had some really good performances from athletes that did not compete last week so it was good to get them on the conference list. I think the highlight was
Austin Wallace in the heptathlon, breaking the school record and putting together a score that would put him three of four in the country."
Jack Misky was third in the heptathlon with a score of 3345 points.
The Panthers had several strong performances in the field events, including a trio of first-place finishes.
Obi Iwuagwu placed first in the triple jump at 13.82 meters and
Anthony Campbell was first with 7.13 meters in the long jump.
Gracien Jules tallied 17.46 meters to place first in the shot put, with
Caleb Rogalski finishing second in the event at 17.07 meters.
Dylan Sieloff placed third in the pole vault with 4.61 meters and
Caleb Rogalski finished fourth in the weight throw at 17.63 meters.
In the running events,
Michael Gorman placed third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91 seconds.
Luke Rapisarda (51.17) and
Caleb Anderson (51.25) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-yard dash.
Milwaukee will host the annual Tierney Classic next Saturday inside the Klotsche Center. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
"We mixed it up really well with the teams we were competing against this weekend and had quite a bit of event winners so we can take away some momentum from this and get to settle into our home track next weekend," Basler said. "We get to have a little rivalry with some of the local schools in Marquette and Wisconsin Lutheran so hopefully we can get everyone healthy and competing."
