YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –
Austin Wallace of the Milwaukee men's track and field team leads the charge as the Panthers own three of the top four spots in the decathlon through five events.
Wallace sits comfortably in first with 3,685 points, over 550 clear of second place while
Trevor Coenen (3,082) and
Tony Bretall (3,077) are in third and fourth, respectively.
Wallace got off to a strong start in the decathlon, winning the 100-meter dash with a new personal record time of 11.18 seconds to earn 821 points.
One event later, the sophomore picked up another first-place finish, taking the long jump with a 6.95-meter leap for 802 points.
Milwaukee took the top three spots in the decathlon shot put, led by Wallace's throw of 13.37 meters. Coenen placed second with a mark of 10.92 meters while Bretall followed at 10.48 meters.
Coenen shined in the high jump with a first-place finish of 1.88 meters while Wallace and Bretall tied for third at 1.82 meters.
In the final decathlon event of the day, Wallace set another personal best, winning the 400-meter race with a time of 51.93. Bretall also recorded a lifetime best in 53.43 while Coenen crossed in 54.54 seconds.
In the discus,
Gracien Jules led the charge with a personal-best throw of 47.91 meters. The sophomore placed fourth to earn five points for the team.
Finnegan Shields,
Caleb Rogalski, and Jacob Wendt followed, placing fifth through seventh, respectively as Milwaukee totaled 14 points in the event.
In the javelin, Milwaukee picked up eight team points behind a fifth-place finish from
Brett Clevidence at 49.67 meters and Coenen, who placed sixth with a 47.76-meter toss.
Charlie Ellenbecker placed eighth with a mark of 44.53 meters.
Both
Trevor Wenzel and
Spencer Currie qualified for tomorrow's final in the 1,500-meter race as they finished in ninth and 10th, respectively.
All three Milwaukee runners in the 10,000-meter race set new personal bests, led by Ian Nadolsi, who placed 11th in 31:44.61.
