MILWAUKEE – Jared Kleczka and
Danny Larson each won twice to lead the efforts of the Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team, falling to Green Bay by a final score of 172-125 Sunday afternoon at the Klotsche Natatorium.
"We came into this weekend looking to have a solid meet," head coach
Kyle Clements said. "We had some scheduling interruptions in our training due to pool availability and it got us out of our normal routine. For some people, you saw their times drop. For others, it was a struggle today."
Kleczka swept the diving events, while Larson put together winning swims in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Jay Jensen also had a strong day, led by a winning performance in the 400 IM.
"We ended up with mixed results, but it gives us a glimpse into what we can do," Clements said. "We are extremely proud at this point. Everyone is working so hard and if we keep working, better swims will come at the end of the season."
Kleczka topped the field in both diving events, recording 312.08 points on one-meter and 331.35 points on three-meter.
Larson recorded first-place times of 1:43.76 in the 200 free and 4:49.71 in the 500 free.
Jensen led the field in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:10.51. He also took second in the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 9:58.35. Teammate
Colin Duffy was close behind in third in the 1,000 in a time of 10:13.31, while also taking the silver in the 500 free in 4:55.82.
Jonathan Kollen gave MKE strong efforts in both sprints, coming in second in the 50 freestyle in 21.69 while getting touched-out in the 100 free in 46.94, just behind the winning clocking of 46.57.
Jacob Weber put in a solid day's work, placing second in both butterfly events, finishing in 1:58.37 in the 200 while just missing the win in the 100 fly (21.83 to 51.31).
Mason Schoof provided points for the Panthers as well, taking third in the 200 free (1:44.39) and 200 backstroke (1:54.62).
The Panthers have one regular-season meet left prior to the Horizon League meet, heading to UIC March 20.
