INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – With five events scheduled on day one of the House of Champions Invitational, the Milwaukee swim & dive teams posted solid results in several events.
Preliminaries in the five events took place early this morning with the top 24 swimmers of each event swimming in the final in three flights.
The Panthers opened the day with a strong performance in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of
Kelen McDaniels,
Meghan Jagdfeld,
Cassandra Hutchins, and
Nhia Caras placed third with a time of 1:34.05.
A pair of Panthers swam in the A finals:
Jay Jensen in the 500 free and
Nhia Caras in the 50 free. Jensen finished third in the event, touching the wall at 4:33.11, just ahead of the next three competitors. Caras improved upon her prelim and posted a time of 23.26, less than a tenth of a second behind the second-place finisher.
In the women's 500 free, Milwaukee had three swimmers in the B final.
Allie Buytendorp (5:04.14) and
Antoni Haupt (5:04.74) were consecutive finishers, and
Bella Passamani (5:10.03) followed close behind.
The team tallied strong marks in the 200 IM, with a total of four Panthers in the B final. Jagdfeld (2:07.76) and
Bri Zablocki (2:10.30) led the way on the women's side with
Zach McClellan (1:52.84) and
Braden Walters (1:54.83) scoring for the men.
In the 50 free, McDaniels (23.81) placed first in the C final, while
John Ruan (21.17) finished fifth on the men's side in the same event.
Day two of the House of Champions Invitational will include the 100 butterfly, the 400 IM, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, and the 100 backstroke. Prelims are set to begin at 9 a.m. CT with finals beginning at 5 p.m. CT.
