MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's swimming and diving team claim a victory over in-state rival Green Bay on Senior Day at the Klotsche Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The nine seniors helped the Panthers outscore the Phoenix, 168.5-131.5, in the final home meet for the seniors and for the season.
The 200 medley team of
Ben Huynh and seniors
Tim Greci,
Patrick Kelley, and
Bailey Bodart kicked things off with an exciting win (1:33.69), out-touching Green Bay by one-tenth of a second.
Senior
Patrick Kelley swam as much butterfly as one could have swam today while also claiming two individual event wins. The senior led the pool in the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.37 and the 100 fly with a time of 50.48. Teammate
Jacob Weber was next to touch the wall in the 100 fly (51.55).
In a tight race,
Tyler Wrasman finished first in the 100 back with a time of 52.06 while
Ben Huynh touched the wall next for second (52.47).
Mason Schoof (1:55.39),
Tyler Wrasman (1:55.66) and
Ben Huynh (1:55.80) showed up big as they then swept the top three spots in the 200 back.
From the boards,
Jared Kleczka won both the one-meter and three-meter events. He scored 296.25 on the one-meter while picking up a score of 311.32 on the three-meter.
The distance squad also had a big night.
Jack Garcia finished in second in the 1000 free with a personal record time of 9:48.40 while senior
Dane Van Allen finished third in 9:57.45.
Jack Garcia also led the Panthers to a second-place finish in the 500 free in 4:46.93.
In the 200 free,
Danny Larson (1:42.87),
Mason Schoof (1:43.55), and
Jonathan Kollen (1:45.77) touched the wall in second, third, and fourth respectively.
Larson then led the Panthers in the 100 free for a second-place finish in 46.88 while
Ryan Hakes finished just behind in 47.78.
Three of the Panthers racing in the 100 breast all finished within four-hundredths of a second from each other. Coming in at second was
Brandon Niemiec (59.16) and tying for third place was senior duo
Jacob Fase and
Tim Greci (59.23).
Senior
Jacob Fase also grabbed a top finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.32 for second while senior
Justin Ogle finished third in 2:12.53.
The sprinters of senior
Bailey Bodart (21.48),
Jasper Appleton (21.57),
Ryan Hakes (21.73), and
John Ruan (21.81) claimed second through fifth place in the 50 free.
Andrew Grever closed out the individual events in the 400 IM with a top finish with a time of 4:17.10 for second place.
In the final event of the night, the Panthers 400 free relay dominated to a first-place finish, touching the wall one second ahead of the Phoenix. The relay team of
Danny Larson,
Jasper Appleton,
Ryan Hakes, and senior
Bailey Bodart grabbed an early lead and never let it go to finish with a time of 3:06.27.
ON DECK
The Panthers hit the road for one final match-up before heading to the big show. Milwaukee will take on UW-Stevens Point on Friday, Jan. 31, in the final dual meet of the regular season while the diving team will compete at the UIC Diving Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1.
