MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team had a strong night at home against league foe Cleveland State on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Klotsche Natatorium in Milwaukee, Wis. The Panthers took home four wins, including the 200 free relay to end the night, but the Vikings would top MKE 171-129.
Sophomore
Mason Schoof grabbed the first win for the Panthers in the 200 free (1:45.35) while teammate
Jonathan Kollen claimed second place (1:45.59).
Senior
Patrick Kelley led the field in the 200 fly to win with a time of 1:52.50.
Jacob Weber came back to take third touching the wall in 1:59.17.
At nearby Schroeder,
Jared Kleczka won the three-meter with the top score of 297.15.
To end the night, the Panther's 200 free relay of
Jasper Appleton,
John Ruan,
Ryan Hakes, and
Bailey Bodart threw down a great race to out touch Cleveland State for the win (1:25.65).
The Panthers also had many more top-3 finishes.
The 200 medley relay of
Ben Huynh,
Jacob Fase, Kelley, and Bodart finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.85.
Jack Garcia swam his way to a second-place finish in the 1000 free, just breaking the 10 minute mark (9:59.20).
After a big underwater push, Huyhn finished second in the 100 back in a very close race (52.25) while teammate
Tyler Wrasman finished right behind in third (54.18).
Jacob Fase led the Panthers all night in the breaststroke after taking third in both the 100 breast (58.81) and 200 breast (2:10.55).
Bodart had a big night in the sprints, leading the Panthers in the 50 free (21.72) for third place and the 100 free (47.49) for second place.
Schoof and Huynh finished second and third in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.71 and 1:55.72 respectively.
The distance crew of Garcia (4:50.86) and
Isaac Jiardini (4:51.23) also claimed second and third in the 500 free.
In addition to Kelley's 200 fly win, the senior had more top finishes after placing second in the 100 fly (51.05) and third in the 200 IM (1:57.74).
After taking first on the three-meter, Kleczka claimed second on the one-meter with a score of 293.10 while
Spencer Peronto finished third with a score of 251.85.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will take a week off before heading to the state of Illinois for a pair of dual meets. Milwaukee will first take on Wheaton on Friday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. in Wheaton, Ill. followed by UIC on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in Chicago, Ill.
