MILWAUKEE - Former Milwaukee baseball player
Mike Porcaro has signed a professional deal to continue his career with the River City Rascals out of the Frontier League.
Â
"I am very thankful for the opportunity the River City Rascals are giving me," Porcaro said. "I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue my career and extremely thankful for all of the people that have helped me get to this point. My parents, my brother, trainers, doctors, Coach Doffek and the rest of the staff. I wouldn't be in this position without all of them."
Â
One of just three baseball players to be named All-American in program history, Porcaro closed out a stellar Milwaukee career with league postseason honors for the third time in 2015, this time as the Second-Team All-Horizon League Designated Hitter after spending the large majority of the season as the everyday DH due to injury.
Â
"I really feel like I am being given a second chance in baseball after the injuries I had to deal with," Porcaro said. "I am going to do my absolute best to take advantage of this opportunity."
Â
He hit .296 on the season, but upped that to .356 in league play, scoring 43 runs, recording 56 hits, 11 doubles, 32 RBI and a .430 on-base percentage. He became the 11
th player to get to over 200 hits in a Milwaukee uniform, finishing ninth with 215 and also finishing fourth all-time with 143 runs scored.
Â
Porcaro was the 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year, earning honorable mention All-American status that season after leading the team and league with a .364 batting average.
Â
Frontier League champions as recently as 2010, the Rascals have also been West Division champs in two of the past five seasons. Located in O'Fallon, Missouri, the team went 56-40 a year ago.
