MILWAUKEE - Seniors Mike Brady, Sam Niesen and Nathan Welchlin combined to win seven individual events on Senior Day as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team knocked off UIC 170-130 Saturday at the Klotsche Natatorium.

The Panthers won 10 of the 16 events on the day to improve to 3-1 on the season.

"We don't get a whole lot of dual-meet wins on the men's side against UIC. I think last year was the first year we got them in quite some time," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements said. "We've had this meet circled because UIC is just such a good dual-meet team and they are very well coached and they are just such a talented team. We knew that we had to do well today and we did. Freshmen through seniors, everyone contributed today. It's about time, but we're figuring things out. It was a real team effort today."

Welchlin led the way for UWM, winning an impressive three individual events on the day. He kicked things off by taking first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.73, nearly four seconds in front of the next swimmer.

He continued his dominating day, grabbing the top spot in the 100 fly at 50.10, two seconds in front of second place. Welchlin capped his day by touching the wall first in the 200 IM with a winning time of 1 minute, 55.96 seconds. Niesen was second at 1:57.79 and freshman Nic Halverson took third at 1:58.17.

Niesen won both backstroke events on the day. He took first in the 100 back with a time of 52.28, with junior Chris Jenkyns (52.62) right behind to touch out UIC's top swimmer for second. Niesen and Jenkyns went 1-2 again in the 200 back, with the senior posting a winning time of 1:55.04. Junior Jeff Maxwell came in the third in the event at 1:57.34.

Brady also won a pair of events. The senior won the 100 free in 46.78, and also touched the wall first in the 200 free at 1:42.68. Freshman Tim Halverson just beat out UIC's top finisher in the 200 free to take second with a time of 1:44.18.

Nic Halverson also won two events at Saturday's big meet. He started things off with a win in the 1000 free with a winning time of 9 minutes, 37.43 seconds, more than 10 seconds in front of the Flames' top swimmer. The freshman later won the 500 free at 4:42.70, with brother Tim right behind in 4:46.97 for second.

In diving, sophomore Lee Anderson took the top spot on the three-meter board with an NCAA Zone score of 320.33. That is his second zone score of the season, automatically qualifying him for a trip to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. Anderson also took second on the one-meter board with a score of 278.48.

In other events, David Dvorak (21.70) came in second in the 50 free, freshman J.J. Melville was third in both breaststrokes and both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams finished second.

The Panthers continue their busy fall schedule with a trip across the state next weekend, heading to the Stevens Point Border Battle. The five-school meet will start Friday, Nov. 9 and concluded Saturday, Nov. 10.
