Seversen Notches Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week Honors

Junior shatters 1000 Freestyle school record

November 04, 2026

MILWAUKEE - For the second time this season and the fourth time in his career, Gunnar Seversen was named the Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week, announced by league officials Wednesday afternoon.

The Woodbury, Minn. native continued to excel in the pool, shattering a school record in the 1000 freestyle this past weekend at the UIC Triangular. Seversen turned in a time of 9:07.76, besting Nic Halverson's previous top time by nearly 10 seconds back in 2015.

The junior also went on to place first in the 500 freestyle by approximately eight seconds, covering the distance in 4:26.72. That time was good for a pool record at the Flames Natatorium en route to notching gold.

Seversen capped off his day by contributing to the winning unit of the 200 freestyle medley relay, completing his leg of the race in 19.69 seconds.

Seversen now owns four individual program records for Milwaukee, as he broke the school record in the 500 freestyle a couple of weeks ago at the Wisconsin Showcase.

Fans can catch Seversen and the Panthers in action Friday, Nov. 6, as they travel south to take on Wheaton College in their first dual meet of the year. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m. CT.
