MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee track & field teams will compete in the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, Jan. 23-24. The meet hosted by Iowa begins on Friday at 10:30 a.m., and Saturday's events will commence at 1:00 p.m. in the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility.
LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers last competed in the 13th annual Tierney Classic while celebrating senior day in the Klotsche Center. Six athletes turned in Panther top 10 performances, highlighted by
Anna Szepieniec's school record long jump outing.
Szepieniec soared to a 6.30m clearance in the long jump, shattering the previous school record of 6.06m set by Samia Taylor in 2013. Her mark currently ranks first in the Horizon League and 17th in the NCAA. The standout performance earned Szepieniec Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week honors, her first field award of the indoor season and the third weekly conference honor of her junior campaign.
Isabel Roloff delivered a strong 7.76 outing in the 60-meter dash, securing the top spot at the meet and positioning herself tied for ninth all-time in the Panther record books in the event.
Another standout performance came from
Emma Johnson, who broke into the record books with her 3.75m pole vault effort. She finished first in the event and currently ranks eighth in the Black & Gold records for the event.
Victoria Spagnola won the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.82 and breaking into the Milwaukee top 10 as well.
For the men,
Josh Cygan headlined the field event success for the Black & Gold. His weight throw toss of 17.45m won the event for the Panthers and currently stands sixth all-time in school history.
Anthony Buford secured an indoor career-high long jump effort with his 7.29m leap, ranking fifth in the Panther indoor top 10.
Another first-place effort came from
Matt Scardina in the 60-meter dash (7.03). In the prelims, the freshman was the only runner to finish under the seven-minute mark with his 6.99 performance.

Milwaukee will look ahead to Notre Dame's Meyo Invite Jan. 30-31 in the South Bend, Ind. The meet hosted in the Loftus Center will begin on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
