FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Milwaukee women's cross country team ran in the Rumble in the Fort on Saturday morning, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.
The team finished third out of the eight competing teams, recording 101 points. The Panthers saw five runners finish within the top-40 in the event.
Anelise Egge picked up right where she left off from her last performance, crossing the finish line third out of 92 runners clocking in a 6K time of 21:36.0.
Rachel Helm was the next Panther to cross the finish line, earning a 20th-place finish with a time of 22:32.5. She shaved more than 40 seconds off her previous 6K performance, marking significant improvement.
Freshman
Izabel Romero had an impressive showing for the Black and Gold, completing the race in 22nd at a time of 22:34.1.
"At the mid-season point, we had the opportunity to preview the site of the Horizon League Championships. We also had a chance to toe the line with multiple conference teams," said head coach
Andrew Basler.
Anna Gallagher secured a 25th-place finish with a time of 22:39.1, her fastest 6K performance since the 2022 Bradley Pink Classic.
Ally Schmitz recorded a time of 22:55.9, finishing in 31st position.
"Coach Schultz challenged our main pack to race together and close that time gap with Egge," added Basler. "That pack of Helm, Gallagher, Romero, and Schmitz stepped up to that challenge."
"Also a big shout out to Gallagher, who ran her fastest time in almost three years, Basler concluded. "Romero made a commitment with two kilometers left to run with her teammates, and it led to a great performance."
The Panthers will be back in action on Oct. 3 as they travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. Part of the team will also compete at the Warrior Invitational on Oct. 4 at Greenfield Park in nearby West Allis.
