Stacy Cantley Announces Retirement from Milwaukee Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

May 08, 2025

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee women's basketball associate head coach Stacy Cantley announced her retirement after 27 years of collegiate coaching, including the last seven seasons as a member of the Panthers' staff.

Cantley joined Milwaukee's staff as an assistant coach during the 2018-19 season before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2021-22 campaign, following the team's run into the second round of the Women's NIT the year before.

"Stacy has given her heart to our program the last seven years," said Panther head coach Kyle Rechlicz. "She has made an impact all over the college coaching world, and I'm proud to have had her on staff and call her a friend. I know that our players, alumni, and fans will miss the genuine care she put into each relationship. She will be missed at Milwaukee, but I know that she will have tremendous success wherever life takes her next."

During her seven years on the sideline with the Panthers, Milwaukee won 100 games including a Horizon League regular season title in 2020-21 after a 15-5 conference record.

While in Milwaukee, Cantley helped oversee five All-Conference selections, including two First Team honorees. Four players were named to the All-Defensive Team during her tenure, while another four earned All-Freshman Team accolades.

Before her time at Milwaukee, Cantley had two separate stints at Western Carolina from (2003-04 and 2015-17). She also had stops at the University of Wisconsin (2011-15) and Virigina Tech (2004-11). With the Hokies, she helped guide the team to three postseason tournaments, including two NCAA Tournament berths.

The Beckley, W.Va. native got her start in coaching at UNC Wilmington following a four-year playing career with the Seahawks from 1994-98. She earned her degree in physical education from Wilmington and, at the time of graduation, ranked among the school's top 10 in career rebounds.
