LEADING OFF
» Milwaukee returns home after a 1-3 road trip to Ohio. The Panthers fell to non-conference Cincinnati on Wednesday before taking the opener against Wright State, 9-7, on Friday. The Raiders, however, rebounded with wins in the remaining two games to clinch the series.
» Caden Headlee led Milwaukee hitting .375 in the series at Wright State, while Charlie Marion had a home run and three RBIs. Justin Hausser led the Panthers with four RBIs in the series in Ohio.
» The Panthers play all five games this week at home beginning with non-conference matchups against Northern Illinois and MSOE. The Huskies of NIU salvaged the final game of their three-game set this past weekend at home against Western Michigan, while MSOE took a pair from Aurora over the weekend after splitting their midweek doubleheader against Concordia Wisconsin.
» Following the non-league games, the Panthers will welcome Northern Kentucky to Franklin Field. The Norse enter the week after dropping 2-of-3 against Oakland this past weekend at home. NKU will head to Tennessee in non-league play on Tuesday before making its way to Milwaukee.

LOOKING AT NORTHERN ILLINOIS
Future Horizon League foe Northern Kentucky enters this week at 16-27 overall with a 5-16 mark in Mid-American Conference games. The Huskies dropped two-of-three to Western Michigan this past weekend, salvaging the third game of the series by a 4-2 score. NIU has three common opponents with Milwaukee this season as the Huskies fell to UIC, 13-5, beat Purdue, 2-1, and most recently beat Valparaiso, 8-6, on Apr. 22.

In his second season at the helm, Ryan Copeland's squad certainly loves the long ball and uses it to its advantage. The team enters the week with 69 home runs including 15 from Logan Gregorio, 13 from Gavin Baldwin, and nine from JP Gauthier. Gregorio also lead the team with 58 RBIs, followed by Baldwin's 42 and 37 from Gauthier. As a team the Huskies have been outscored 374-334 and are being outhit by their opponents with a .261 batting average as a team, while the pitching staff has allowed a .316 batting average against.

The pitching staff for NIU has used 19 different pitchers this season, including 11 different arms that have made at least one start. Carter Cox has the most starts for NIU outside of the normal weekend trio with three, while Danny Cihocki has been the most reliable bullpen arm with a team-high 32 1/3 relief innings while totaling four saves. Huskie pitchers have struck out 357 batters with all three of their weekend starters among the top 11 in league rankings.

LOOKING AT MSOE
A bit of a surprise out of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, Milwaukee School of Engineering was projected to finish fifth in the league's preseason poll and currently sit atop the standings in the Division III conference with a 15-5 record, a full game ahead of Concordia Chicago with two games in hand. The Raiders just swept one of the favorites in the NACC with 7-4 and 10-4 wins over the Aurora Spartans on Saturday at home. MSOE will play a league doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran on Tuesday before Wednesday's game at Franklin Field.

No longer at the helm of the Raiders is former Panther Steve Sanfilippo, who resigned following the 2024 season. In stepped, Adrian Santiago who came to Milwaukee after a stint at Division III powerhouse Webster just outside of St. Louis. Santiago brings run-first mentality to the Raider offense as MSOE leads Division III with 164 stolen bases, only VMI at the Division I level and a quartet of Division II programs have more steals than the Raiders across the NCAAs three divisions.

Joe Stried has a team-best 29 steals and has a .315 average with 16 RBIs with Christian Bosque second on the team with 28 swipes to go along with a team-best .353 average and leads the team with 34 RBIs. Jack Kalitowski has 26 steals of his own with a .325 average, the trio of speedsters are joined by AJ Le, who had 31 RBIs and a .336 average as all four have at least 40 hits through the team's 35 games. Sixteen pitchers have a combined 5.16 ERA over 296 1/3 innings this season with 205 strikeouts.

ALL IN THE FAMILY
Although Steve Sanfilippo has departed as MSOE's head coach, there is still a tie between the MSOE baseball program and Milwaukee athletics. Milwaukee's Associate Director of Athletics, Chris Zills' eldest son Quinn is a member of the Raider baseball team in his first season with the program. Quinn has appeared in nine games thus far in 2025 for MSOE.

LOOKING AT NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky sits just a half-game in front of Milwaukee for the ever-coveted two seed in the Horizon League Championship in late May. With a pair of wins this weekend over the Panthers Wright State sits comfortably six games ahead of NKU for a regular season title. The Norse got the last laugh in 2024 winning the league's bid to the NCAA Championship and Dizzy Peyton's squad is looking for a repeat performance in 2025.

Like Northern Illinois, the Norse love the long ball but notably have hit exactly half of their home runs this season (31-of-62) at the friendly confines of the Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights. The Norse have three of the top-five home run hitters in the Horizon League led by Logen Devenport's 13, followed by Josh Williams with 12 and Gabe Miranda's 10. Devenport has also been the league's top hitter with a .432 average this season, while Tyler Shaneyfelt has a league-best 60 runs scored, while Miranda leads the Horizon with 54 RBIs followed by 52 by Williams.

Aaron Boster has arguably been one of the top pitchers in the Horizon League all season with a 4.91 ERA, which is second in the league and a half-run worse than Milwaukee's Gavin Theis (4.40). Boster is the only qualifying pitcher to keep opponents below a .250 batting average, while he and Kaden Echeman have been the league's best one-two punch in terms of strikeouts with a combined 103 to their ledger. Connor Linn has been the team's Friday starter the past two weeks and has struggled, allowing 12 earned runs over 7 2/3 innings against Purdue Fort Wayne and Oakland. Evan Fry, Aaron Massie, Gerald Hanson, Shawn Parnell, Bobby Bartlett, and Logan Wilson have all been key contributors out of the bullpen for NKU.

UP NEXT
It will be a split week of action for the Panthers next week after the five-game homestand, the Panthers will head to St. Thomas to take on the Tommies for the first time ever on May 6 and May 7. Milwaukee heads back to Wisconsin for its final three games, the first two taking place at Franklin Field on May 9-10 against Purdue Fort Wayne, while the final game of the series against the Mastodons will be played at Simmons Field on May 11 in Kenosha.

MORE RUNS ON FEWER HITS
On April 25, Milwaukee defeated Wright State by a 9-7 score. The win was notable for the 2025 Milwaukee team as it was the first time the Panthers had fewer hits than their opponent and won the game, Wright State had nine hits to the eight by Milwaukee's batters.

A PAIR OF TRIPS
With two triples in the team's win over Wright State on April 25, Tyler Bickers became the eighth Panther in the program's Division I history with a pair of three-baggers. He became the first Panther to get two triples in a game since Mitchell Buban did so on Feb. 15, 2020, against Wake Forest.

IT'S MUELLER TIME
During his two outings against UIC and Youngstown State, Matthew Mueller returned to form and had an impressive 1.23 earned run average, yielding just one run over 7 1/3 inning. Mueller tied his season-high with six strikeouts in each of his outings, with a half dozen against the Flames in a start, while performing well as a reliever on Saturday and added another six strikeouts against the Penguins.

THE RACE TO 200
In the history of Division I baseball at Milwaukee only nine players have gone on to collect 200 career hits, Justin Hausser looks to break into that exclusive club and enters the week with 186 hits for his career. He had a career-best 72 hits as a junior in 2024.

HORIZON LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Milwaukee has had three players earn weekly honors during the 2025 season thus far. Aric Ehmke was named Pitcher of the Week on April 8, while the Panthers swept the awards on April 15 with Charlie Marion earning Player of the Week and Gavin Theis earning Pitcher of the Week accolades.

FIVE-FOR-FIVE
In Milwaukee's win over Northern Kentucky on Mar. 29, Tyler Bickers was 5-for-5 in his at bats becoming the 23rd Panther in program history to have at least five hits in a game.

DOUBLE-DIGIT HOMERS
Charlie Marion (10) and Gabe Roessler (8) are currently on pace to eclipse double-digit home runs this season, the duo would be the first pair of Panthers to have at least 10 home runs since the 2006 campaign when Joe Nowikcki and Ross McCoy each had 11 round trippers that year.

HOME RUN PACE
With 43 combined home runs through the team's first 41 games, Milwaukee is currently on pace to finish the season with 59 home runs this year. The program mark for homers in a season is 77 set in 1999, while 59 would put this year's team third on the single-season mark.

A PAIR OF FIVES
In the middle game of Milwaukee's road series at Youngstown State on Mar. 14 both Q Phillips and Gabe Roessler had five RBIs apiece in the lopsided 15-7 victory.

Last Four Occurrences
Mar. 14, 2025, at Youngstown State – Q Phillips (5) & Gabe Roessler (5)
Apr. 15, 2022, at Youngstown State – Nate DeYoung (7) & Connor Goodman (6)
Apr. 28, 2015, vs. Edgewood – Nick Unes (6) & Sam Koenig (5)
Apr. 12, 2006, at Chicago State – Ross McCoy (8) & Zak Rivera (5)

THREE STEALS IN A GAME
Gabe Roessler stole three bases at Youngstown State on Mar. 15, he became the first Panther to swipe three bags in a game since he accomplished the same feat on May 5 last season against Purdue Fort Wayne. Milwaukee has now had 19 instances of a player stealing at least three bases in a game in program history, with the program record of four reached twice.

HOME COOKING
Over the last 20 seasons (2005-24), Milwaukee has taken the term 'home field advantage' to a new level, boasting winning seasons at home in all but two season (8-14 in 2022, 0-0 in 2020). The Panthers went unbeaten at home in 2013 (13-0), while the team has recorded back-to-back 12-7 marks in home games in both 2023 and 2024.

IN EXTRA INNINGS
This season, Milwaukee is 0-1 in extra-inning games, the Panthers hold a record of 16-17-1 in games needing extra frames dating back to the 2015 campaign.

RETURNING TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Among Milwaukee's transfers into the program is pitcher Logan Schulfer, who began his career with the Panthers in 2022 before transferring to Ball State for two seasons (2023-24).

Schulfer is one of just four active players in Division I to return to a school where they had previously played at the Division I level. Outfielder/Pitcher Malachi Lott returned to Houston, infielder Tristan Moore returned to New Orleans, and infielder Chandler Riley returned to Charlotte.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED ON THE HORIZON
The Horizon League announced the addition of Northern Illinois as the 12th full-time member. The Huskies will bring 14 sports to the league, including baseball beginning in 2026-27. Milwaukee will play Northern Illinois at home during non-conference play this season on Apr. 29. The Panthers are 35-29 in all-time meetings with the Huskies, including last season's 6-5 win.

ANOTHER DRAFTEE
For the third consecutive season the Milwaukee baseball program had a player selected in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft in June. Owen Rice was selected in the 20th round of the 2024 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, following the selections of Riley Frey in the 19th round of the 2023 draft by the Atlanta Braves, and the pick of AJ Blubaugh by the Houston Astros in the seventh round in 2023.

Milwaukee has had 26 all-time draftees with five of the last six draftees being pitchers. Five players are actively playing in either the Majors or Minor Leagues, including Milwaukee's first ever Major Leaguer in Daulton Varsho of the Toronto Blue Jays. Austin Schulfer signed a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies entering the 2025 season, while Blubaugh (Houston), Frey (Atlanta), and Rice (St. Louis) are with minor league teams in their respective organizations.

CHECK THAT DIAL
This season, Milwaukee has made the move to one of the leading audio providers in all of college sports with their audio streams now available online directly through the team's home website MKEPanthers.com, as well as on The Varsity Network. Fans can download 'Varsity Network' in the App Store on iOS devices and Google Play and search "Milwaukee" to find the live audio stream of Panther baseball games.
