Men's Track & Field Heads Into Championship Week With Strong Showing at the Panther Tune-Up

February 22, 2025

MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee men's track & field team was in action, hosting the Panther Tune-Up Saturday. The Panthers were highlighted by Iyimi Fagbamiye winning the 60m dash and posting a top-five performance in school history.

Fagbamiye's career-best time of 6.86 moves him into fourth place on the program's indoor leaderboard.

Competing as an unattached athlete, Divine Aniamaka shattered the Klotsche Center record in the triple jump reaching 16.52m, taking down the record of 15.75m that had stood since 2000, and he had tied on Jan. 25. The impressive jump ranks third in all of NCAA Division I this season.

"We didn't have our full team competing today, but the ones that did took a great step forward," said head coach Andrew Basler following the meet.

In the pole vault, Evan Bartelsen cleared a personal-best 5.00m to claim the top spot in the event and put himself all alone in third place on the school's all-time list. Noah Gilbertsen and Liam Richards both cleared 4.55m, with Gilbertsen getting the edge in tiebreakers to give him second and Richards third. Nick O'Halloran also added a career-best 3.20m.

"I thought the pole vaulters all performed extremely well," Basler added. "All four guys had lifetime bests, which is great momentum heading into the league championships."

Caden Thomas and Collin Schulz went one-two in the high jump, each clearing 1.98m with the tiebreaker going to Caden Thomas.

Jeremiah Johnson finished on top in the weight throw with a toss of 16.32m, before placing second (13.96m) in the shot put behind Aiden Janke's winning throw of 14.98m.

Back on the track, Carter Eckhoff outlasted the competition in the mile run, making his way through the event in 4:16.94 for the victory.

Moving to the 800m run, Talon Gamez pulled away with the win with a performance of 1:58.42.

Will Whiteis closed the competition for Milwaukee with the team's eighth first-place finish on the day crossing the finish line in the 3000m run in 8:36.12.

"Overall, I'm extremely excited and confident for this team as we head to the league championships," Basler concluded. "I firmly believe both teams will be fighting for trophies by the time it's all said and done."
