Women's 200 Freestyle Relay Win Highlights Day Two at Horizon League Championships

February 20, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Milwaukee swimming & diving returned for Thursday's action at the Horizon League Championships from the IU Natatorium. The Panthers made some noise on day two, setting three school records on the day, highlighted by a victory in the women's 200 freestyle relay.

The 200 free relay team of Gabrielle LePine, Carly Plate, Christiana Brooks, and Janelle Schulz finished in 1:31.63 to capture the team's first conference title of the meet. The time brings down a program best that was set previously in 2016.

On the men's side of the event, Charlie House, Caleb Carlisle, Jackson Ahrens, and Ben Lorenz improved on the record that was set earlier this season with their time of 1:19.62. The performance earned Milwaukee the second spot on the podium to close out their day.

Gunnar Seversen started his day in the prelims of the 500 freestyle by touching the wall in 4:25.64 to claim his own school record. Seversen wasn't done yet though; in the final round of the event, he pushed that record down to 4:25.18 to finish in the fourth spot of the event.

To go along with her relay title, Schulz found the podium in the 50 freestyle, reaching the finish in 23.17 to claim the third spot in the event. It was a tight finish, with the top four within 0.28 seconds of each other. Joining her in the finals was LePine, who managed fourth (23.22) and Brooks (23.49) who settled into seventh.

For the men, Ben Lorenz got the last spot in championship finals then surged there to take fifth on the day, clocking in at 20.00.

Erika Thomas led the way in the 200 individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:04.33 for fourth place. Natalie DiProspero (2:04.42) had a strong showing in the event with a fifth-place finish, and Johanna Edgren (2:05.53) in seventh place joined them in the finals as well.

On the one-meter diving board, Julie Rebek scored a 246.70 in the finals to finish in seventh place.

As a team the Milwaukee women have shot up to second place through two days with 240 points, trailing only Oakland who sits at 284 points. On the men's side, the Panthers moved into third place with 162 points.
