Egge Sets New School Record in the Mile at Final Day of Meyo Invite

February 01, 2025

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Milwaukee track & field teams returned to Notre Dame for day two of the Meyo Invitational on Saturday.

Anelise Egge highlighted the day for the Panthers, breaking her own school indoor record in the mile run, finishing with a time of 4:47.25. In a deep and talented field, Egge finished 12th of 51 competitors in the event.

"I thought a big highlight was the middle-distance group," said head coach Andrew Basler. "Obviously Anelise breaking the school record was a high point as she picked right up where she left off at the end of the cross country season."

"I thought all three took advantage of really strong fields," Basler continued. "Lucas Picco ran a great race, and Cailin Kinas had a strong result as well getting a career best."

Picco finished with a career-best time of 1:53.32 in the 800m, and Kinas had her own career day in the mile with a time of 5:02.48 in the event.

In the 60m hurdles, Iyimi Fagbamiye finished in second place with a time of 8.05 to move into a tie for fifth-place on the school's all-time leaderboard. On the women's side, Anna Szepieniec notched a time of 8.74 to finish in sixth place on the day.

Moving to the 60m dash, Jaelyn Reeves-Lile finished third at 6.80, while for the women's team Dominique Thomas crossed the line in 7.64 to take home a fifth-place finish.

"We were pretty solid on the track today," Basler added. "We got some good representation in the finals so I'm really happy with that group."

Hailey Soriaga continued to push her personal best in the pole vault, clearing 3.76m to improve on her seventh-place mark on the program's all-time list.

"Looking to next week we are going to have our full team at La Crosse," Basler concluded. "It will be good to be able to feed off that energy and keep moving up as we inch closer to the conference championships."
