Panthers Open Strong at Day 1 of IU Indy's House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Milwaukee swim & dive teams competed at the House of Champions hosted by IU Indy on Thursday.
 
After day one of the three-day meet, the Panther men stand in fifth place out of 11 teams, claiming 411 points. The women similarly hold fifth place out of 14 teams, totaling 479.50 points.
 
Sam Lorenz continued his monster season showing, recording three first-place finishes at the meet held in the IU Natatorium. Lorenz finished first in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 20.81, and he broke the program record in the 50 Freestyle, clocking a time of 19.68. Competing with fellow Panthers Caleb Carlisle, Aleksander Piljevic, and Charlie House, Lorenz claimed another crown, this time in the 200 Freestyle Relay, turning in a time of 1:20.03.
 
Carlisle also shined at the House of Champions meet, taking home a fifth-place finish in the 50 Freestyle (20.19). He was also part of the 400 Medley Relay team made up of Lorenz, Alvin Valkki, and House, who broke the school record in the event. Finishing in second place in a competitive field, the squad posted a time of 3:12.51.
 
The Milwaukee freshmen have adjusted to the collegiate stage nicely, solidifying their dominance early this season. Emre Arican took a stab at breaking records on Thursday, doing so in the 200 Individual Medley where he set a new Panther freshman best. Arican clocked a time of 1:51.17. The unit of Josh Crook, Max Dexter, Logan Beebe, and Piljevic set a Panther freshman record in the 400 Medley Relay, turning in a time of 3:21.38.
 
The women also saw solid first-day performances, with Kiara Olmstead leading the charge. She finished as the highest-placing Milwaukee diver, grabbing a sixth-place finish in the 3-meter dive finals with 219.20 points.
 
Mara Freeman saw success in the pool, claiming a fourth-place finish in the 50 Backstroke finals (25.70), and Christiana Brooks added a sixth-place outing in the 50 Freestyle prelim with a time of 23.26.

The relay teams pulled through for the Black & Gold at the meet hosted by IU Indy, securing two top-three finishes on the day. The team of Freeman, Gabrielle LePine, Maddi Hayashi, and Brooks took home second-place in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:40.43. LePine, Brielle Laube, Elena Zippel, and Brooks secured the third spot on the podium with their 200 Freestyle Relay time of 1:32.45.
 
In total, Milwaukee saw 23 swims during finals.
