Panthers Top the Podium 16 Times at Wisconsin Showcase

October 18, 2025

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee swimming & diving teams traveled south on Saturday to compete in the Wisconsin Showcase hosted at Carthage College.

In an incredible showing, the Panthers took home the top spot in each of the 16 events at the meet. In 10 of the events, Milwaukee claimed the top three spots on the podium, solidifying their dominant outing.

"It was great to get back into racing after a six-week break," head coach Kyle Clements said. "A lot has changed since our last meet, and it was encouraging to see the physical progress we've made in that time."

Sam Lorenz was a standout for the Black & Gold, finishing first in all four of the events he participated in. In the 100 Backstroke, Lorenz recorded a time of 47.37. He also clocked a time of 1:47.63 in the 200 Backstroke, setting a program record previously set by Jeremy Waldhart in 2009. Lorenz played a key role in the first-place 200 freestyle and 200 Medley relay teams as well.

Gunnar Seversen looked right at home in the pool on Saturday, touching the wall first in each of his three events. With a time of 1:37.95, the reigning Horizon League Championship Freshman of the Year took home the crown in the 200 Freestyle. This effort places Seversen second in the 200 Freestyle program records. He also saw success in the 500 Freestyle and 400 Individual Medley, where he recorded times of 4:33.69 and 4:00.61, respectively.

Caleb Carlisle performed well at Koenitzer Aquatic Center, claiming a first-place finish in the 100 Butterfly (49.44). He also helped lead Milwaukee to wins in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:22.92) alongside Lorenz, Aleksander Piljevic, and Charlie House, as well as the 200 Medley Relay (1:29.25).

Senior Alvin Valkki shined in the pool for the Black & Gold, recording individual victories in the 100 Breaststroke (56.13) and 200 Breaststroke (2:05.11).

Will Francis was the sole competing diver for Milwaukee, but that did not stop him from sweeping the diving events. Francis recorded first-place finishes in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive with scores of 259.50 and 288.30, respectively.
