Swim & Dive Ready for Final Dual Meet at Stevens Point

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee swimming & diving programs will be competing in their final dual meet of the season Friday, when they hit the road for a matchup at Stevens Point.
 
The meet will be held at UWSP Aquatics Center in Stevens Point, Wis. and begin at 5:00 p.m.
 
The Panthers enter the weekend on the women's side sporting a 3-1 record in dual meets, while the men will look to finish the season above .500, currently sitting at 2-2 on the year.
 
WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT
In its last competition on Jan. 25, Milwaukee dominated the Horizon League dual against Green Bay, winning all 16 events on their way to a 235.5-64 victory.
 
Gabrielle LePine led the way for the Panthers earning Horizon League Swimmer of the Week after winning both the 100 breaststroke (1:02.63), and 100 freestyle (52.30) events.
 
Janelle Schulz also brought home two individual victories starting in the 200 freestyle (1:55.44) before finishing first in the 200 individual medley (2:09.86). Erika Thomas picked up first-place finishes in both the 1000 freestyle (10:35.05) and 100 butterfly (58.89).
 
Julie Rebek grabbed the top spot on both diving boards scoring a 272.48 in the 3m dive and a 264.98 in the 1m dive.
 
Other individual winners on the day were, Mara Freeman (100 backstroke), Skylar Ruggles (200 Backstroke), Maddi Hayashi (200 butterfly), Nadia Switalski (200 breaststroke), Carly Plate (50 freestyle) and Lilly Nesson (500 freestyle).
 
MEN'S LAST TIME OUT
The Panther men looked impressive as well in their 200-92.5 win over Green Bay coming away with wins in 12 of 16 events on the day.
 
Highlighting the day was the 800 freestyle relay where the team of Jay Jensen, Charlie House, Jackson Ahrens, and Gunnar Seversen set the Klotsche Natatorium record with a time of 6:41.82.
 
Seversen managed to touch the wall first in both the 1000 (9:25.09) and 500 (4:40.32) freestyles, earning Horizon League Swimmer of the Week honors.
 
Also picking up a pair of top finishes was Caleb Carlisle, with his stellar performances in the 100 (58.89) and 200 (1:51.33) butterfly. Andrew Jones earned himself the 100 (57.40) and 200 (2:09.58) breaststroke titles on the day.
 
On the diving boards, Ben Stitgen had no problem with top performances in both the 1m (274.95) and 3m dives (300.30).
 
The other individual winners on the day included Jay Jensen in the 200 freestyle (1:44.40) and Ben Lorenz in the 50 freestyle (20.67).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
Coming into this year's matchup the women's team holds a 12-0 all-time series record against Stevens Point with their largest margin of victory coming in last season's, 244-59, victory.
 
The men are 11-1 record against the Pointers, winning the last nine matchup in the series, while also posting the largest margin in the series in last year's matchup winning 210-101.
 
Competing at the NCAA Division III level, Stevens Point has a men's record of 3-4 on the season, while the women currently sit at 2-6 in dual meets. The last competition for the Pointers came Jan. 24-25, hosting the Point Invite where the men finished second out of five teams, and the women third out of six teams competing at the event.
 
UP NEXT
 
Milwaukee will see its next competition Feb. 7-8, when they make the trip to Madison for the Wisconsin First Chance Meet. The event will be the final competition for the Panthers before the Horizon League Championships Feb. 19-22.
