ROCHESTER –
Natalie Block set a new Milwaukee record in the 400m hurdles as the Panthers competed at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational today in Rochester, Michigan.
Block won the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.13, more than three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Her time broke the previous program record of 59.54 seconds, set by Block two years ago.
Block also led a Panther sweep of the top four spots in the 100m hurdles, winning with a time of 13.54.
Kynnedi Malone,
Anna Szepieniec, and
Cloey Fare followed close behind with times of 13.92, 14.12, and 14.39, respectively.
"It was a good opportunity to get a lot of our athletes at the facility where the conference meet will be held in a few weeks," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "There were a lot of PR's today and I think it was a good step forward for our team."
Dane Nelson won the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.65, more than two seconds ahead of the runner up. Nelson also took third in the 110m hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.55 seconds.
Will Mortimer won the men's long jump with a leap of 7.03m (23'0.75"), while
Olivia Busch won the women's triple jump with a distance of 11.05m (36'3"). In the men's triple jump,
Bishop Bufford and
Chris Dobbie took the top two spots with marks of 13.25m (43'5.75") and 12.57m (41'3").
Tabitha Wechlo won the women's shot put with a distance of 13.96m (45'9.75"), and
Golden Cotton led the way in the 100m dash, winning with a time of 10.52 seconds.
The women's 4x100m relay team of
Dominique Thomas,
Isabel Roloff,
Vanessa Laundrie, and Malone won with a time of 47.52 seconds.
Thomas also won the 200m dash in 24.57 seconds, followed closely by
Katie Burns in third with a time of 25.23.
Burns grabbed a win of her own in the women's 400m dash, winning with a time of 57.90 seconds. On the men's side,
Zac Schmidt won the 400m dash with a time of 49.06. Schmidt also grabbed third in the 200m dash, finishing in 22.17 seconds.
Macy Woodward led a sweep of the top three in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.60m (5'3"). She was joined on the podium by
Kallie Volk and
Nadia Vo in second and third, both clearing 1.55m (5'1").
The Panthers secured two of the top three spots in the women's 4x400m relay, as the relay team of Burns,
Alexandria Simmons,
Leah Handshoe, and
Angelica Refinski won in 4:01.20. The squad of
Anelise Egge,
Rachel Helm,
Ally Schmitz, and
Cailin Kinas took third in 4:09.08.
Anthony Campbell won the men's high jump by clearing 2.00m (6'6.75") and was followed in second by
Caden Thomas. Thomas cleared 1.95m (6'4.75") to secure the runner-up spot.
Lucas Picco won the 800m by three hundredths of a second, recording a time of 1:55.27.
Nate Griepentrog joined him in the race, taking third with a time of 1:55.69.
Roloff took a win in the pole vault with a height of 3.50m (11'5.75"). Joining her on the podium was
Tia Brennan in a tie for second at a height of 3.35m (10'11.75").
On the men's side,
Evan Bartelsen and
Jack Browne took the top two spots in the pole vault with heights of 4.85m (15'11") and 4.55m (14'11").
The men's 4x400m relay team of Nelson,
Ethan Criter,
Caleb Henry, and Schmidt took the win with a time of 3:17.14.
Mercedes Herrera won the discus with a distance of 44.76m (146'10"), earning her the fifth spot on Milwaukee's all-time list.
Tony Bretall won the men's javelin throw with a distance of 50.20m (164'8"), and
Samantha Satterfield won the women's hammer throw with a toss of 50.52m (165'9").
Kinas and
Eileen Tocco took second and third in the 3000m steeplechase, recording times of 11:04.88 and 11:18.29. Kinas' time moved her up to second on the MKE top ten list, while Tocco moved up to fifth. In the same race,
Sara Jochims recorded a time of 11:37.05, good enough for seventh in the race and tenth on MKE's all-time list.
Sam Schreiber and
Aidan Sodemann placed second and third in the men's 3000m steeplechase, recording times of 9:26.32 and 9:26.34.
Ka. Volk and Vo took second and third in the long jump, recording distances of 5.70m (18'8.5") and 5.56m (18'3"), respectively.
Egge grabbed second in the 800m run, crossing the line in 2:14.77, while Roloff grabbed second in the 100m dash with a 12.42 mark.
Finnegan Shields found the podium in the shot put, taking third with a throw of 14.75m (48'4.75").
Ari Miller placed third in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.13m (111'11"), and
Carter Eckhoff took third in the 1500m run with a time of 3:55.95.
The Panthers will be back in action at two meets next week, as they are scheduled to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 11-13 and the Gary Wieneke Memorial on April 13.
