INDIANAPOLIS – For the second consecutive week, the Horizon League named Milwaukee outfielder
Carson Hansen as Batter of the Week.
Â
Hansen helped Milwaukee to a series win over the league-leading Northern Kentucky Norse this past weekend with a pair of grand slams as he led the Panthers with eight RBIs in the series, and nine on the week with his RBI at Iowa on Tuesday.
Â
The sophomore continues to perform at a high level after a 7-for-17 performance this week, with three doubles and three runs scored. He had a team-best .941 slugging percentage this week and was also 2-for-2 on his stolen base attempts.
Â
This year he leads the Horizon League with 20 doubles, becoming the first Panther to reach the 20-double level since the 2019 campaign, when
Trevor Schwecke ended the year with 20 two-base hits.
Â
Hansen is also tied for seventh in the conference with his team-best seven home runs, while he has also made his way into the top-five in the Horizon League with 48 RBIs as he looks to become the first Panther to reach 50 RBIs in a single season since Schwecke had 51, also in 2019.
Â
He is hitting .307 this season with 47 hits in 153 at bats as he has played in all 40 of the team's games on the year. He has scored 32 runs and has a team-best .614 slugging percentage, while also walking 16 times for an on-base percentage of .379. This season he is also 5-for-6 on his stolen base attempts.
Â
Hansen becomes the first player in a decade to earn two Batter of the Week honors in one season, which was also the last time a Panther had won back-to-back Batter of the Week honors, as
Sam Koenig was recognized on
March 30 and
April 6 in 2015.
Â
Milwaukee will host Parkside on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m., before welcoming Northern Illinois to Franklin Field on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Â
The team's schedule has been adjusted for Friday and Saturday at Purdue Fort Wayne, Friday's game has been moved up to a 10:00 a.m. (CT) start, while Saturday's game has been moved to Warrior Baseball Field on the Indiana Tech campus, just three miles south of the Purdue Fort Wayne campus.
