MILWAUKEE - Senior
Sam Koenig of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the league office announced this morning.
The award is the fourth of Koenig's career and the second this season (also March 16). It also marks the fifth time a UWM player has been honored this season (
Joe Pavlovich, March 9 /
Justin Langley, March 2 /
Brian Keller, Feb. 16).
Koenig continues to lead the Horizon League with his .444 batting average, .806 slugging percentage and .551 on-base percentage and had another big week at the plate this past weekend, batting .600 as the Panthers split a weather-shortened series with Oakland University.
He extended his hitting streak to 19 games in the process, going 6-for-10 against the Golden Grizzlies with three extra-base hits for a 1.200 slugging percentage. He scored six runs, recorded five RBIs and added his fifth home run of the season.
