WHITEWATER – The Milwaukee track & field program competed today at the Drake Alternative in Whitewater, setting multiple personal-best marks and putting three athletes into the top ten on Milwaukee's all-time lists.
Anna Szepieniec won the long jump with a leap of 5.94m (19'6"), earning herself the third spot on Milwaukee's all-time list.
Nadia Vo joined her on the podium, coming in third with a jump of 5.38m (17'8").
"A big highlight on the women's side was
Anna Szepieniec in the long jump," head coach
Andrew Basler said. She had four jumps that were all over her previous personal best. She is knocking on the door of the 20-foot club and has all the ability to accomplish that next weekend."
In similar fashion to Szepieniec,
Evan Bartelsen won the pole vault with a height of 5.00m (16'4.75"), moving him up to third on the all-time list.
"On the men's side,
Evan Bartelsen joined the five-meter club in the pole vault," Basler continued. "He took three great attempts at a school record height (5.16m) but just missed it. He's been working a long time to get to that bar today, and will have a ton of confidence heading into conference."
Finnegan Shields recorded the tenth farthest shot put in Milwaukee outdoor history, throwing for a distance of 15.91m (52'2.5") and earning second place at the meet.
Sara Jochims won the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:57.01.
Alexandria Simmons took second place in the high jump, jumping a height of 1.57m (5'1.75").
Isabel Roloff grabbed a second-place finish of her own in the pole vault, clearing 3.56m (11'8").
Aubrie Gorski finished the 110m hurdles in 15.09 seconds, good enough for second place on the day, and
Eileen Tocco took second in the 800m with a time of 2:21.27.
Jack Misky and
Jeremiah Johnson placed second and third in the discus, throwing for marks of 49.15m (161'3") and 47.52m (155'11"), respectively.
Olivia Busch grabbed a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.23m (36'10.25").
"Whitewater made the decision to move their meet up a day to avoid poor weather, and we took full advantage of it," Basler said. "There were a lot of personal bests across all event areas. The group that competed today should be extremely proud."
The Panthers will have another group of competitors at the Clark Wood Invitational tomorrow and Saturday in Louisville. After the Invitational, Milwaukee will have one week to prepare for the conference championships, taking place May 3-5 in Rochester, Michigan.
