March 30, 2024

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's track & field team finished second at the Redbird Challenge as the Panthers wrapped up their first weekend of outdoor competition at the Redbird Challenge and the Raleigh Relays.

"Being the first outdoor meet of the season, there is always a learning curve adjusting to the weather," head coach Andrew Basler said. "Both the Illinois State group and the Raleigh Relays group had great weather, but there is still acclimation that needs to happen with the heat or the wind."

Redbird Challenge

Bryant McLaughlin topped the field in the high jump, winning the event with a height of 2.04m (6'8.25"), and earning himself the ninth spot on Milwaukee's all-time list. Caden Thomas also scored in the event, placing seventh at 1.90m (6'2.75").

Finnegan Shields and Jeremiah Johnson put together solid performances in the throwing events. Shields finished fifth in the discus and seventh in the shot put, while Johnson finished sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

Mercedes Herrera grabbed sixth in the women's discus at 39.11m (128'3"), with Satterfield grabbing eighth.

Lucas Picco took sixth in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.96, Isabell Roloff finished fifth in the 100m dash at 12.30 seconds, and EJ Kruse grabbed seventh in the 100m with a time of 11.00.

"At Illinois State, Zac Schmidt ran a great opening 400m dash, breaking into the 48's," Basler said. "Tony Bretall connected on a great javelin throw to have a personal best. Overall, there were a lot of high notes across all event areas at Illinois State."

For the meet, the Panther men finished second with 114 points, while the women finished in fourth with 66.

Raleigh Relays

Anthony Campbell started outdoor season on a strong note, finishing second in the long jump with a distance of 7.40m (24'3.5"). Anelise Egge ran her way onto another program top ten list, this time running the 800m in 2:11.18, putting her at fourth all time.

"At the Raleigh Relays, the highlight for today was Anthony Campbell in the long jump," Basler continued. "I thought he jumped well into a consistent headwind. On the track, Anelise Egge ran a PR in the 800m to finish off her 1500m/800m double for the weekend."
