Egge Captures Horizon League Individual Championship

November 02, 2024

GREEN BAY, WIS.- Anelise Egge highlighted the day with a first-place finish overall as the Milwaukee women's cross country team competed at the Horizon League Championships in Green Bay, Wis. Saturday.

Egge cemented her spot as the top runner in the Horizon League, winning the 6K race with a time of 21:07.9. Egge is the first Panther to win the individual Horizon League crown since Meg Swietlik in 2020. This is her third first-place finish of the season, crossing the finish line first in all three events held at Alumni Cross Country Course at Shorewood Park this season. The first-place finish gives her the top spot on the All-Horizon League First Team, earning postseason accolades for the third consecutive season.

"A big congrats to Anelise for running a great race and winning her first XC championship" said head coach Andrew Basler. "She put herself in position right from the start, which is what you need to do in a championship race."

As a team the Panthers finished in fifth place out of the 11 teams with 111 points.

Milwaukee also received an impressive performance from Rachel Helm, finishing in 10th with her time of 22:04.0. Following on her heels in 11th place was Cailin Kinas, running the course in 22:05.9. Both received Horizon League All-Second Team honors for their efforts. For Kinas, it was the second of her career, as she was also first-team in 2022.

"Cailin and Rachel also put themselves in a great position at the start. They used each other throughout the race really well and it showed in their finish" Basler continued.

Finishing next was Ally Schmitz, posting a time of 23:35.0 that was good enough for 41st place. Anna Gallagher followed Schmitz, finishing in 52nd scoring a time of 23:52.0, to round out the point scorers for the Panthers.

Runners posting their season-bests on the day were, Brittany Helm (24:41.2), and Grace Kline (25:34.0).
