MILWAUKEE –
Natalie Block and
Tabitha Wechlo both broke a program record today as Milwaukee track & field competed at the 11
th annual Tierney Classic, held by Milwaukee in the Klotsche Center.
Block broke her own program record in the 60m hurdles for the second week in a row, winning the event and crossing the line with a time of 8.25 seconds. The mark puts her in a tie for 20
th in the country, and further extends her lead over the rest of the conference.
Tabitha Wechlo became Milwaukee's record-holder in the shot put with a throw of 14.70m (48'2.75"). That mark earned the senior thrower the top spot on the podium, extends her lead over the conference, and jumps her into the top 100 in the nation.
Block was followed in the 60m hurdles by
Kynnedi Malone,
Cloey Fare, and
Brooke Crosby, in that order. Malone's second-place time of 8.61 seconds was good enough to move her up to third on Milwaukee's all-time list.
Joining Wechlo in the top ranks of the shot put was
Samantha Satterfield, who recorded a third-place throw of 12.54m (41'1.75").
Dominique Thomas led a sweep of the 60m dash, winning with a time of 7.52 seconds. Thomas was followed by Malone,
Isabel Roloff, and
Angelica Refinski. Malone added to the records books for the second time in the meet, as her time of 7.76 earned her a tie for the eighth best mark in program history.
Adaline Powell won the triple jump, recording a distance of 12.16m (39'10.75") and moving up to seventh on the all-time list.
Morgan Pilate recorded a second-place mark of 11.91m (39'1").
Jamie Pankratz led another Milwaukee sweep, this time of the weight throw. Pankratz recorded a distance of 17.06m (56') to move up to a tie for third on the all-time list and was joined on the podium by Satterfield and
Cynthia Hernandez. Wechlo finished fourth in the event.
"Overall, there were a lot of improved performances across all the event areas," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "Tabitha brought it today to PR and break the school record in shot put. Natalie broke her hurdle record again today. She is really locked in to accomplishing big things this year."
Alexandria Simmons took the win in the 400m dash, recording a time of 1:01.14. Crosby finished not far behind in third with a 1:01.82 mark. Simmons and Crosby also both contributed to a first-place finish for the 4x400m relay team. The pair joined
Leah Handshoe and
Katie Burns to record a time of 4:01.76.
Aubrey Anderson and
Rachel Helm finished one and two in the 800m run, as Anderson recorded a time of 2:18.50. Both were a part of a second Milwaukee relay team, joined by
Anelise Egge and
Ally Schmitz, that finished as the runners-up.
Cailin Kinas led a sweep of the top four in the 3000m run, recording a time of 10:27.13. Kinas was followed by
Eileen Tocco,
Anna Gallagher, and
Madison Hughes, in that order.
Nadia Vo took the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 5.65m (18'6.5"). Powell joined her on the podium, taking third.
Ella Laughbaum claimed the win in the pole vault with a mark of 3.60m (11'9.75"). Roloff tied for second, clearing a height of 3.45m (11'3.75").
Olivia VanZeeland placed second in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.65m (5'5"). She was followed by
Macy Woodward in third. Burns and Refinski finished second and third in the 200m dash, recording times of 26.17 and 26.69 seconds.
"There is always something special about competing at home for the Tierney Classic," Basler said. "We have so many alumni and family attend this meet, as well as having our senior recognition. This year we honored 26 seniors who have poured so much into our program. I couldn't be more proud to have them as Panthers."
The Panthers' next competition comes January 26
th and 27
th at the Illini Challenge, hosted by the University of Illinois.
