GREEN BAY – The Milwaukee women's cross country team placed third at the Phoenix Open hosted by Green Bay on Friday afternoon.
With a team score of 68 points, Milwaukee fell just four points behind Michigan Tech's 64. Winona State collected three of the top four individual spots for a winning team score of 24.
Cailin Kinas and
Anelise Egge continued their trend of top ten finishes to start the year. Kinas finished the 6k course in 22:28.9, good enough for 8
th, and Egge finished in the 10
th spot with a time of 22:39.9.
"(Kinas) had a really good week, posting a great performance," Head Coach
Andrew Basler said. "It was a good atmosphere, and the team had a really good attitude on just trusting the process."
Three additional Panthers placed in the top 20.
Eileen Tocco crossed the finish line in 16
th place, followed by
Rachel Helm and
Anna Gallagher in the 19
th and 20
th spots, respectively.
"We had massive results compared to this same meet last year," Assistant Coach
Jake Reilly said. "It's really rewarding to see the improvement and the execution at this high of a level."
Milwaukee runners finished the course in an average time of 23:07, a full 45 seconds ahead of 4
th place Oshkosh.
Milwaukee runs next at the John McNichols Invite, hosted by Indiana State. The race is scheduled for an 8:00 AM start on September 16.
